Trekking Poles....an overlooked piece of equipment

I really liked the cascade carbon poles especially for the price. I have a bad ankle and even so I could hunt further with less fatigue than without. Only issue I had was keeping quiet with the poles hitting brush or each other. I am thinking about wrapping them in hockey tape or something to keep noise down.

Just an update on these poles. Last weekend I did a 92.5 mile through hike in the sawtooth wilderness in Idaho. These poles touched the ground just about every step. We hiked through everything, boulder fields, snow, creek crossings, dirt, mud, and swamps. We accumlated about 21,000 ft of gain over 3 days. I had a 27lb pack on the whole way. I am happy with how they performed. We will see how they do with a heavy pack.

Anyway, just thought id give an update.

Brock , I had the Ultra Distance poles which are the same shafts with slightly different handle and I had one break going downhill with a load. I was really putting my weight on them when it snapped at the joint over the aluminum ferrel. I went to the ground HARD ! I’d be hesitant to recommend these for heavy loads. They were so light and nice to use it’s a shame I can’t personally trust them with a load.
