hey whats up everyone.
So I will be traveling for my first elk hunt this year. I am packing all my gear except optics in my kifaru pack. so I was thinking of a way to travel with my optics, iPad and electronics through the airports. thought about a backpack but Im already checking in my pack. then I was thinking a rolling bag but there are so damn many. any suggestions or options? would love to here how you guys manage. thanks guys. Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July!

For carry on I use a few options for personal or non business trips.

- northface small or medium duffle. Bomb proof and relatively cheap
- mr 3 way briefcase Can swallow a lot more gear than you expect.
- yeti hopper. Great the going to your destination. Great way to transport some of your meat home after your hunt.

I use a mountain hardwear atlas 35 backpack. Easy to carry through the airports and can hold plenty of clothes. Held all the clothes and for a 5 day bear hunt in montana. That included rain gear and a 65mm spotter and AGC bino harness with binos and all my phone chargers and gps chargers. Great bag

Any bag that isn't black or Camo. Always amazed when i watch people at the airport. 95% of the bags are black and people have no idea what their bags look like. They grap every bag that come around on the carousel looking for their name.
I also put bright colored name tags on my bags really for other people more than myself. Camo screams hunter or redneck and that isn't a good thing going thru some major airports. I carry my important papers and electronics in a small backpack and and optics and a change of clothes in a small carry on. My hunting pack normally gets checked inside a large zip bag with my clothes and boots. My weapon is in the other checked bag. I try to only fly Southwest on my hunting trips. Two bags free.

I was looking at the mystery ranch 3 way briefcase and the mission rover. I was thinking of something rolling but haven't found anything except the mystery ranch wheelie.

Nice looking bag but I am trying to stay away from a large backpack like that.

absolutely agree with you. I am looking at those mystery ranch bags I mentioned earlier in the post or something rolling. I got a pelican case for my rifles

I have a 40L wheelie. It is a great bag. Use it for business travel mostly. North face has a 22” roller duffle called rolling thunder. I have a checked bag version that is great but I find I prefer non rollers for personal travel. The wheels and frame take up space and you are more likely to be asked to check a roller than a softside duffle.

I have been eying the mission rover.

If it's a carry on I think you're wasting weight and time with a roller. A duffle can smash into the overhead better.
But pretty much anything from Ogio is solid.
I have a Dakine that's been good but it's to big.

I’m looking at duffels as well. I’ll take a look at those you mentioned

I have a 70L rock a gaiter dry duffle I really like.
Then it would be dual purpose.
Not sure if code Bridget10 may still get some time off.

I pack optics in my rifle or bow case.
Use my kifaru guide lid for electronics and anything else I might want during the flight. Guide lid is small enough that it doesn't count as a carry on bag so I can still carry on another bag if I like which is generally my pack.

You haven't said specifically your flying with a weapon so assuming that I agree with packing your optics in your rifle case. They will be 100% for sure safe this way. Also you have 50lb limit. My case with rifle is under 30lbs. So I pack my binos and scope in with the rifle. Also firearms must fly with the person. They wont bump your rifle case to a later flight. Normally when I check a firearm it gets a Red "Must Ride" sticker. One of my cases now has one from nearly every airlines Why take the chance they take your carry on at the gate to gate check it into luggage.

I will be flying with two rifles in a pelican 1750. unfortunately, optics will not fit into my case.
