Cut out 5 miles of trail today. Carried a couple saws on a 4 year old filly. It's amazing how stupid they are on trails. Only took a couple attempts to take their own path around trees to get her attention. She did pretty good with me putting the saws in and out of the panniers. She only got stupid once.

Don't know which was worse. The blowup or my wife chewing on me while I cussed out the horse getting her attention.

I like starting them with feed bags or salt blocks. We have salt block boxes that strap everything in. They wanna buck with 200lbs it don’t move, they wanna try and rub against a tree it won’t give and almost throws them on the ground. My young ones are the last ones to get unloaded, then we would typically finish the day riding them down cause they’re usually to tired to try anything and they get broke in both ways real quick

I was way to busy to work on her last year so I paid a lady to break her. For a thousand plus I got three rides and she loved her to death. She was so small that the filly is irritated that I cinch her up and still have to teach her respect so I don't get stepped on. It's a shame that I still make expensive mistakes in my later years. Not having the time tends to cost you a lot of money as well as providing you with a number of regrets.
