Traditional archery shop recomendations

Long story short I recently had a medical problem come up where my eyes make it hard to see through a peep sight and sight hoisting. It should only be periodically but I want to be prepared if it comes up in hunting season so I want to start learning the trad bows since there’s less stuff in your way of seeing. I’m very green to the traditional world so I would like to go to a good shop any recommendations? I’m in south eastern Wisconsin and make trips to eastern Iowa fairly often but I’m not afraid to drive a few hours if it’s worth it. I feel Theresa writer knowledge and experience base on here then compared to google reviews, so any help would be great thank you.

I would contact a Traditional Bowhunters club for your state and go from there.

Fly to Denver and get a lesson from Tom Clum or buy his online video training program. Just make sure you're getting a lesson from a qualified instructor. www.rmsgear.com If flying here for a lesson is out of the question, give Tom a call, he gets up in that neck of the woods fairly regularly, he might be doing a clinic you could make it too! It would be well with the effort and would help your wheel bow shooting too!

if I were in your shoes i’d Strip my current bow of all things obstructing your vision and see how that goes first. If you still can’t see, then going trad won’t help you.

Thanks for the feed back I’ll try the stripping down an old bow idea first and shoot a bit then look into contacting Tom Clum possibly since I hear so much good about him in the podcast world

Had a similar problem, got an anchor site and ditched the peep. Shot just as accurately and could basically shoot in the dark vs losing light quick with the peep. I ended up switching to traditional anyways but definitely check out the anchor site if you wanna stick with a compound.

One of the things that finally made me try it, wanted too but wasn't sure if I could do it, I couldn't make everything clear, either the pins were clear or the target was clear but not both! If I go back to compound done day due to injuries etc, it will be without pins. You might want to raise your anchor so you can gun barrel down the arrow aiming!

thats kind of my thought process also. my eyes kinda twitch if i look to the left and being right handed shooting i cant focus on anything cause the image is bouncing all over so im hoping i can learn a hybrid for for head position and just going more off feel/instinct then lining up peeps and sights. but this is all uneducated theory as of now since this has only been two weeks now of dealing with it. my only other option is go lefty.

I am with BigHink on this. Try instinctive shooting with the compound first. My brother used to do this and he was pretty accurate to about 35 yards. Alternatively you could look at sight pin magnifier or clarifier to help with the sight pins as they are.

If you do go trad-Tom at RMS is a great resource and his store has a ton of nice preowned bows.

Thanks for the compound tip guys, I was just messing around with an old youth bow that only has a whisker biscuit on it. My form is crap obviously and mediocre shooting I’d guess for the first time but I could see the target without the whole spinning tunnel sensation I get through a peep. Good tip thanks!

So I ordered just a cheaper recurve to mess around with for a couple weeks to try to get my feet under me a little form
Wise and get a base built, anything you guys think I need? Like what is around guys finger and in there hands, cause I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is? Is it to help with shooting back tension style cause I feel that’s where I see it most in the backtension style videos?
