I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, so Tonka trucks. My son runs wild outside with a dump truck, loader, and bulldozer. That along with a kid sized set of rakes and shovels, and he could practically live outside playing in gravel, leaves, and sticks. If you go the sandbox route, which is a good idea, get (or build) a lid for it.

My boy absolutely loved some cheap trekking poles.

Anything that was vaguely similar to the gear I used he loved.

Cheap binos and cheap Walkie talkies were a huge hit.
