Toyota vs SxS

We hunted out of my 2006 Tacoma for years then gave it to my daughter when she turned 16. I bought a bigger truck, trailer, and SXS. After using it for a year, I miss the Tacoma. A few areas we hunted this year were so dusty the SXS was miserable to be in for a full day. We ended up driving to the closest town to take showers at a truck stop. Sure you can get around faster, but I think I will end up back in a Toyota.

I did exactly what the op is considering. I do not regret my decision at all. You can get a very good suspension for under $10,000.

What suspension did you go with?

I’m looking at the RXT pack, 8100’s in the rear and 6112’s up front.

I did the jeep, then scout, the old bronco and finally a F150. All worked, just got tired of replacing parts, running an enclosed SxS now. Rarely break any parts, cover a lot more ground comfortably.

Do the 8100’s at all 4 corners, you’ll regret half assing it.

I did the OME medium leaf replacement pack and don’t regret it.

I don’t regret ditching the side by sides for a ford bronco. The creature comforts are really nice.

But the nicest thing of all is not getting dusted out like you do in the UTV’s. I was so tired of eating dust whether you had full doors or a half windshield. The noise aspect is nice too. Vehicles are so much quieter than the UTV’s. Both running and in the cab.

I was looking into SXS and decided on a rubicon. I have put some work into it, but it has taken us many places. Riding up (or down) in a nice climate controlled environment sure is nice. And I don’t have to trailer it. I’m sure the taco experience is similar.

We have a Can Am Defender Limited for around the farm but it sure is nice in the mountains. Definitely have an easier time getting places than the Tacoma guys

We have a Polaris Ranger Northstar (6 seat, fully enclosed, A/C and heat), and I have a 2023 Tacoma with a cheap spacer lift and 34” tires.

The Polaris gets real cramped with more than two people in it. Side by side definitely rides better, but I still prefer hunting out of my Tacoma.
