I did a search and didn’t see anything related to this brand. I’m specifically wondering about how sharp they are out of the pack?

I’m making a temporary change, have to buy new heads, this is one I’m looking at but don’t want to have sharpen something right out of the pack as seems to be the case with these type of heads.

Thanks

Few years ago I got a pack while trying a bunch of heads. Wasn't too pleased with how sharp they were, and being 4 blades, angles were a little harder to get what seemed to be a really good edge.

They weren't vented, solid, were not forgiving at all in flight, acted like a much larger unvented head than they were. Low velocity it wouldn't have been as much of a factor, was just surprised for as "small" as they were.

I'm getting to be a fan of D6 Evo heads, but for something cheaper and I think easy to sharpen, the QAD Exodus works well. I have gotten them really sharp when I resharpen them, both tip and blades. Never had an issue with out of the package sharpness. Get swept unless not legal where you will be hunting.

Thank. I like the swept as well but it’s only because they’re a little easier to pull back through a target.

I just found some Black Hornets on EBay, 3 packs for 28 each. Guess that’s what I’m going with.

IMO, they are not the sharpest out of the box, however I would be fine shooting an animal with a head out of the box.

Not everyone shoots the same. I shot 1” slicks for a long time and when their QC went down I went to find a replacement. QAD heads flew like crap for me past 40 yards. The TOTA heads fly very well for my set up if vented or solid version. I did buy their sharpener to get the blades razor sharp and every head I have spins perfect. I have not killed a pile yet either the tooth heads but I have enough to know they are still my go to head this season.

I bought a pack of them a while back too. I can't recall exactly how sharp out of the pack they were, so to me that means sufficient but not exemplary. I take that as it is sharp enough, but don't expect something like Iron Will. I will say they flew fine. The thing about them is most of the weight is in the ferrule, which minimizes wierd flight. I also felt they penetrated well in the target, which is one of the reason I bought them as a few videos showed them out penetrating other heads. I will say at the time I bought them I think the rockwell hardness was 52, so it's on the softer end. So sharpening should be easier to get an edge, but it will lose it quicker. I tried their sharpener, but I didn't feel it was easy enough for me. I did shoot a rock chuck on my farm with them and after part of the head was bent just a little after the head went through the animal and into a fence board. I chose to go to another head because I didn't how to resharpen them and the head and how the head bent after that use. ROC 52 is more likely to bend and less likely to break. I wouldn't tell you to avoid them though, they just weren't for me.

I just picked up some of their single bevel heads. Not the sharpest out of the package but I was impressed with how they flew with my field points. Pretty much identical at 40 yards. Once my sight tape is set up I’ll shoot them much farther and report back.
It did penetrate the target slightly more than my field points and when I pulled it out, the arrow had to spin and definitely did more damage to the target than my ironwills did.
I know it’s only foam so far but I am impressed by them so far.

Forgot all about thunderheads. That is a good deal on them. I know they’re made in china now is the quality the same?
Yeah, sharp.

I like 2 blades too. The thing I have seen with BH's, if it's a tapered design like the Thunderheads versus the short wide heads or forward opening mech heads, the tapered designs slide in vs chopping in through hair, hide and bone and puts less dulling pressure on the blade edge.

I've seen those short wide heads [slick Trick Mags] that chop their way in dull badly on elk and hogs that have a lot of mud/dried dirt in their hide. Design matters.

Thus, the tapered heads stay sharper through the animal. Thunderheads have probably killed more animals than any head out there besides the 2 blades. The disadvantage is the small short heads are a little easier to tune...but I haven't had any problem getting Thunder heads to tune great out to 60y.

I am not aware of ANY brand of broadhead that is "hunting sharp" out of the package. They all* need sharpened and then stropped before use.

* possible exception of Iron Will but I haven't purchased any in the last few years.
