What are you carrying and how.
I started with a big box, went to a small box and then a 3 drawer Ridgid box. Love the Ridgid boxes. Similar to the Milwaukee pack outs but cheaper. Since I was pretty much a nomad living between my place and my gfs. I carried more than I needed for auto and home use.
I need to size down and realize I’m not repairing a modern vehicle in the driveway or on the side of the road.
Thinking of a bag with the essentials
This thing is 50 pounds or more!

I carry my Milwaukee power tools in a bag.
Pretty tight fit but works good.

I carry a small tool set in the hard case it came in. Not thrilled with the hard case as although it keeps tools organized it doesn’t hold them
very well. If you open it up the wrong way your in for a half hour of picking up sockets
and finding the proper hole for each.

These two sets are pretty much designed
for the few things I have found I need at
camp. I made up a smaller tool kit in a zippered pouch for my SXS. I keep things like that in a RTIC 45 hard side cooler in the bed.
Also in the cooler I keep things like air compressor/ hammer, small axe, ropes, ties and other stuff I want to keep dry and dust free.

Depends. Like you said with modern vehicles many of us are not wrenching on the side of the road or even under the oak tree these days. As an aside I once did change a fuel pump at the campground in Sand Dunes National Park. Three trips into Alamosa in my buddy's vehicle to get it done--last trip included some Tecate. I carry an inexpensive boxed set of tools in the vehicle for essentials. Some other assorted odds and ends that might help in a road side break down or quick fix leak, extra quart of motor oil. All the vehicles have a recovery snow shovel, cold steel shovel, cold steel hawk. Some road trips might get a small air compressor and recovery gear.

That said there are other tools for other jobs. Have a nice heavy canvas riggers bag for my most used wood carving tools--handy for grab and go--company that made the tool bag is not longer in business--should have bought more of their high quality products. Tool bags, tool boxes, even buckets, have at least one bucket organizer as well.
