Will probably be one of my last few sits of the year but looking to make the most of it. I’ve got the whole day tomorrow to chase whitetails here in Southern MN and would like the opinion of Rokslide to help me get a tag punched this year. I have two options:

Private: small 40 acre tract with some decent doe activity on my cameras in the last few weeks. A small buck or two but nothing worth chasing. Easy access, easy transport if I get something down. Somewhat residential in that there are homes nearby but pretty spaced out. Cut corn field across the road about 1000yards away.

Public: Roughly 100 acres but only focused on 40 of them. Spent a lot of time in there leading up to mid Nov. Had a lot of nice (for MN public land at least) bucks on camera through the rut, and even had a few close opportunities earlier in the season. Directly off a private corn field that’s been cut. I typically sit in a tree about 60 yards from the corn. Haven’t had a cam up for a while, so no recent data points. Biggest catch is getting something out of there solo. A few steep climbs in and out, worth it for a buck.

What’s your thoughts Rokslide? Leaning towards the private so I can at least get a doe down, but hoping I catch a decent buck moving between bedding and feed on the public.

Merry Christmas Y’all. And thanks in advance.

Hit the public.

More room to rome, more deer, less homes, better chance at a buck.

That suburbanish private 40 seems sorta boring. Along those lines why just that 100 acre public? Isn’t there far bigger tracts in Minn? I’d find some public that’s been ignored for whatever reason if it were me.

Just a couple hunters on that 100 acre piece could move deer, yes. Just a couple hunters on that 100 acre piece could move all the deer….off.

Private land in a farming area , where deer are used to the odor and sound of people, that’s where I’m going

Meh, i used to have access to about 30 acres in a suburbanish area. Had a subdivision actually about 80 yards away from this farm. I could often hear people talking while i was bow hunting it.

Some great bucks but it was the most boring hunting I ever did. I still could hunt it if i wanted but ive not been to that spot in probably 6 years now in favor of stretching my legs on bigger public land. There is always someplace on public everyone else has avoided for whatever reason and that is where you’ll find the deer. I’ve never been on a public piece that didn’t have deer in it. And thats heavily hunted SE WI public only 40 minutes from Milwaukee. Trust me the deer are there.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that the public will be empty. I didn’t see a sole out the far all season, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been hit hard. Just some dilapidated stands, but all points relevant. You never know.

I’ve definitely seen more deer on the public, and of better quality as well. To the point @CarterHunt made, I could definitely use some meat in the freezer.

Good take, thank you. The private does tend to get a bit boring.

This late in the season, I know the bucks are around, but is it just blind luck, hoping I’m sitting between bedding and food?

Appreciate the opinions y’all. First year that I’ve put a lot of time into whitetails, so have a lot to learn. Been a fun year for sure.

Read all yiy want, watch all the videos you want, read this place as much as you want. It only starts to make sense when you put time in, in the woods
