Toaks question

Sorry to derail. What do you guys do about the handles on your ti pots getting hotter than Satans ass when your boiling water. I wrapped mine with athletic tape which works, just wondering if there’s a better solution.

I’ve never had an issue with this, as long as I made sure that the handles weren’t flat up against the sides of the pot when I was boiling water.

Either I use the little GSI pot grabber and drink with my pinky out like a classy lady or I use a bandana, buff, neck gaiter etc to grab them.

Everything else I’ve tried on handles burns off but occasionally I use my mugs / pots in or over a fire

I took my handles off and put electrical shrink tube over them. Once I gave them a little heat they have a perfect form fitted rubber grip. Cheap and easy to replace if I ever accidentally burn them off

I use our seek outside titanium cup. It is a tad heavier but warps less and has a bail handle so you can almost always find a way to grab it or put it over a fire . What I do for tea is I have a lid from a GSI light coolest that fits it perfectly so I take the titanium cup and the lid . The lid I use when I want to sip tea

I have the pot with lid. I drink out of it and boil with it. Perfect for mountain houses as far as carrying capacity, and it’s not too huge of a cup for drinking anyway.

I run a toaks 750ml, Ditched the Ti lid and its now secured by S2S x-mug. Inside I nest the fuel can, BRS3000 burner, lighter, tinfoil, hot lips and a S2S x-cup

The tinfoil is my lid when boiling

The x-mug is about 2 cups and fits the rim of the 95mm toaks. This is my food bowl

The x cup is about 8oz, fits inside the toaks750 and use it for coffee. I throw in the hot lips if brewing for 2 .

I'd really like to try these http://www.ezpots.com/lids.html

the silicone coffee lids #lid96-R ( on bottom of the page) are advertised to fit cup rims 93-98mm . Theyre only $2.50 ea but you gotta by $50 minimum because they're a wholesaler. GROUP BUY for toaks users maybe?

I'd ditch the tinfoil and hotlips as it would be a cover for boiling and sipping and keep coffe hot longer

a 750 pot and a cup or just a cup or just the pot and drink from the pot? .

Lol right.

No I told em what I wanted to use it for and they sent me sample lid. Might be worth a group buy cuz I'd definitely like 2 or 3 more for my other pots.

I'll start another thread and see who wants in.

I use a 650 Toaks and hot lips. A 100 gram fuel cell, small stove (Pocket Rocket size or similar), lips and lighter, all easily for inside. Also, pretty hard to beat the wt.

Been looking at going this same route, except with the pocket rocket deluxe, do you have any issues holding the handles on the toaks mug? As far as being too hot after boiling water?

They can get hot, but they cool off quickly. I have since changed up my cook system a little. This past winter I put together a much more efficient and lighter system using a Sterno pot with the bottom heat exchanger fins, a Jetboil neoprene sleeve, carbon fiber lid, and the same BRS-3000 stove that I’ve been using for a few years now. New cost for everything is about 55-$60, it comes in at 5.5 oz., not including fuel or lighter, and uses about 3 grams of fuel to boil 16 oz. of 45° water at 1,000’ elevation. The fuel consumption tests I’ve done with it have all been in a controlled environment (my kitchen), so no wind or cold temperature exposure, but I think it’s going to work well for me.

Trout do you know what boil time you were getting for two cups of water with this setup?

Man, there’s a lot of variables to consider in regards to boil times, like Initial water temperature, altitude, wind, ambient air temperature, and how high you have the flame cranked up. My main objective was just to get the most efficiency out of my set up, so as to burn as little amount of fuel as possible, and all the testing that I did was in a controlled environment, trying to keep everything on a level playing field. So, all that being said, I think I was getting 16 oz. of water up to a rolling boil in about 3 1/2 to 4 minutes. If I was just looking to get water to boil as quick as possible, I’m sure I could have shaved at least a minute or so off that time.

That’s fair enough. For reference I ditched my jet boil this year which was 15 oz and switched to a lighter setup so have been doing some testing as well. The BRS was something I thought of grabbing as well but at 3000 BTUs didn’t know if it would be enough juice. Funny thing is that my 10000 stove with a regulator isn’t really boiling any faster.
