Titanium vs steel actions

I would suggest just giving lonepeak arms a call and they will probably be able to answer your questions better than anyone on here... Would love to hear what they tell you though! They are the experts in this field as they make actions out of both! Both Mike and Brian do a lot of shooting and have tested both in the field extensively!

I wouldn't say unqualified, I have both, others have both... you're getting real world answers from guys who own them.

I've read enough negative reports of titanium actions to not consider one. Lone peak seems to be the most highly regarded option though and I wouldn't be concerned with using one for a hunting rifle that isn't going to go through a bunch of barrels.

What are the pros and cons of titanium and steel actions? what applications would I want either?

I've owned a titanium action and was really disappointed with it.
I had heavy bolt issues with loads that were below max, and random pressure signs with loads that otherwise were fine.
I called quite a few high end builders and they all said my issues were very typical with titanium actions.

Apparently it stretches way more than steel and shows pressure earlier, also hot loads can cause lug set back at a quicker rate.
Some smiths I spoke with actually refused to build off any ti action
I was also told that ti actions have issues with barrels coming loose

I believe they are the same length but I think they are smaller in diameter , I bought a bell and Carlson Remington short action for a S/A Remington Mountain rifle and the action would not set in the stock , I have purchased a Remington TI off 24 hr Campfire and will check it when I receive it !!!
