I'm going on a drop camp moose hunt in ak in september and I'm hoping to get my first bear as well. When caping a bear should I also cape the skull as well or do you leave that part for the taxidermist? I've watched a lot of videos and it looks like most people leave the skull but they are packing it out to the truck where if I got one down it might be days before it gets flown out. I have 5 pounds of salt i'll be bringing for the cape just fyi.

I would cape the skull if you have that kind of time. No other way around it. I killed one in canada the day before i flew out. Got delayed in the airport for 10 hours. The hair in the face area fell out on several areas. And this was with fully caped head and pre frozen.

Remove the skull and feet. Flesh the bear as needed and turn the eye's, ears, lips, and nose. Don't salt the bear until this has been done, many taxidermists will refuse to take a bear that has been salted without the prep work done first.
