Howdy, everyone. I've wrapped up my deer season without a deer but with a whole lot of new knowledge about mule deer. I have a cow elk hunt coming up in November, but I won't be hauling a rifle in with me until Thanksgiving week. My dad is coming out from Vermont to tag along, and I have no intentions of burning my tag before he gets here. My buddy also has the same tag that I do, so we'll all be headed in together that week. I hunt almost exclusively by myself. Since September 14, I have spent Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon living on the side of the mountain every week aside from one in September and one in October. Needless to say, I have a pretty solid nighttime routine for solo hunting. I've never really hunted with other folks, however, and with the short November days, I figure we'll be spending plenty of time in my SO Cimarron. Does anyone have any suggestions for passing time in the tipi? I'm considering packing in a travel cribbage board, but could use some other ideas. Take care, be safe, and shoot straight.

I know this might be strange in today's times, but I enjoy some conversation. Nice to just chat, maybe brainstorm about hunting strategy. I have very much enjoyed just getting to know more about my friends. Seams that people don't really have deep conversations that much these days. Most days we are pretty tired, so dinner and some conversation followed by a good sleep sets us up to go hard the next morning.

Couple years ago we all started bringing whittling knives. It's been fun to work on a spatula or spoon or wood spirit throughout the trip.

None of us are artists at it, but it's kind of nice to have a project going.

I downloaded a couple of books onto my IPhone before we left. Worked out great for when we were rained in for a few hours and at night. No weight penalty like when bringing a book.
