When I was researching hot tent setups I came across this video from SO showing how you can rig a DST Tarp up to one of their tipis to create an awning / vestibule. Seems like a neat addition. Anyone ever tried this with the DST, another tarp or a similar setup? Many of the pros and cons of this are pretty obvious, just curious to see if anyone has tried it before.

Exactly my question? Anyone running an awning on a hot tent / tipi? Looks like a nice way to expand space for gear and maybe some wood. Wonder how practical it is

yeah i did it last year on our float moose hunt, works great, use a beener to the top of my cimmaon and dst a-framed off of the peak. Keeps all your stuff dry

Yes, it is useful. You can rig the awning different ways than what I showed there. Use your imagination.

Reasons I like it...
Wood storage
Sitting outside to glass if it's raining
Don't lose stuff in snow
Snow / rain don't fall inside the tent
Exterior drylines

In high winds I'd take it down personally...too much chance of parachuting. The tipis do well in winds, an awning that big would do nothing but reduce the wind performance.
