Wanting a new 6.5 prc for elk hunting and these are my options. Buy a tikka t3x, replace the stock and have factory barrel cut down and threaded. Option 2 have a smith chamber me a barrel for my current seekins ph2. Only down side to the seekins is lack of aftermarket stocks and I'm not a huge fan of the stock on it.

I'd go the Tikka route and keep your seekins as is. I really liked my Iota stock for my tikka. Not as well known as others but really solid option.

What PH2 chambering do you currently have? Probably not ideal if it isn't already a 6.5 PRC as they have different bottom metal/mags with the 6.5 PRCs than their other chamberings.

I’d go Tikka. I’ve got a 6.5prc chopped to 20” and threaded. Shoots 130tmk & 130 tgk hand loads great . Along with factory 147 eldm’s & 140 tipped fusion

Curious why just these two options if you are looking to change stock, barrel etc. anyway?
Barrel wouldn't be changed on the tikka and I've already got a ph2 chambered in 7-300 PRC that I can just rebarrel. Wouldn't change stock on ph2 right away.

Ph2 is 7-300 prc but I found someone who makes custom mags for them so you can shoot short action cartridges in the long action.

For the price of a new barrel for the Seekins, you can buy an entire Tikka... it's really a no-brainer.
Not once you have barrel cut down and threaded. Also not sure how good the factory stock on a tikka is. If replacement is a must it's a lot more then a barrel.

Isn't seekins action a 700 clone? If so F that!!

Either way go with the Tikka

It's not an exact clone but close. What's wrong with a 700 clone? Pretty much all custom actions are.
Wrong question on Rokslide… I prefer my Rem platform short actions over Tikka, but it is not the popular choice.

Rokslide is extreme for durability and reliability, and the Tikka fits with that ethos. Can’t argue, Tikka is solid and I am enjoying the ones I have built. Cost less to get into as well.

Remington had some embarrassing fails in the past. They can be absolutely reliable if properly built, but the average is not very good.

Just because “all custom actions” are based on a REM 700 doesn’t automatically mean that it is the “best” starting point for a bolt action rifle.

Like @hereinaz said, Rokslide users are backcountry hunters who take not just their guns to limit, but all of their gear. Lots of users here are in the mountains shooting year round not just a couple days/weeks out of the year on hunts. Think using the gun 4+ days a week, every week.

When you take any REM 700 based action and put it up against a Tikka in year round field use, it’s really not even close unfortunately. The Tikka is like a Toyota Hilux Diesel pickup if you understand that analogy.

There are plenty of threads but the bottom line is, They fail constantly when used as they should be, triggers are absolute trash due to the required long sear, no military in the world (last time I looked) allows a 700 or clone to be used, they will slam fire. Like someone else said on here, there is a reason EVERY comp shooter carries a spare trigger in the truck...

Ok so I could totally be wrong here but doesn't our military still use rem 700 rifles? I know they definitely used to anyway.

Another question for all the tikka guys how good will they shoot with factory barrel? If I do go tikka I won't have the cash right away to be rebarreling it.
