Tikka T3X XLR Build - 6.5 PRC / 7 PRC

Hi guys, I was pretty committed to getting the Seekins Havak Element but couldn’t decide between 6.5PRC and 7PRC and I wish the 6.5 PRC came in 22”.

Is it possible to pick up a long action tikka T3x with a magnum bolt face, drop it into a LA XLR and run either 6.5 PRC or 7 PRC based on which barrel I screw on (or even 6 creed with a bolt face change). I would plan to adjust the bolt stop/mags between SA/LA as needed. Seems like a neat idea given tikka is a standard length action and should accommodate both SA and LA.

Only issue I’m seeing is whether or not there’s an AICS LA magazine that will run the 6.5 PRC.

Am I missing anything here? I know the tikka mags have some COAL length limitations but that should be alleviated with running AICS mags.

Mine is actually in a HNT26 probably should have included that in my post but it’s the exact same concept for either chassis. It’s just a matter of what you like better. I went with the HNT because it was almost half price last year as a factory 2nd during Black Friday. And the XLR had a long lead time so it was a no brainer for me. I’ve shot both chassis and would’ve been just as happy with either.

LA HNT26 or XLR, 300 WM t3x superlite, pretend it’s a 300 WM mag wise and it’ll run 6.5prc and 7 PRC based on barrel?

I’m running a Tikka 6.5 prc. Dropped the action and barrel into an XLr chassis Long action. Awesome setup.

Here is a pic of some 156 Berger’s in the mag.

Can I ask what your build weighs? What barrel and with/without folder?

Where did you see a Black Friday sale?

I think mine is about 9.5lbs if I remember correctly. I have a Leupold Mark 5, proof prefit carbon barrel 24” and mine is the non folder. Ended up going with the non folder because I always use a gun bearer on my packs so no need for folder. It ended up a little heavier than I wanted but it carries well

It was on mdt last year for Black Friday.

Overall it’s a really great rifle I know I can go with a lighter optic or a steel barrel and shed some weight but it’s already built now and I don’t see changing anything unless I wanted to throw a different barrel on but with being able to shoot 156 bergers at 2940 fps without really pushing it I don’t see me changing it up at least for now lol.

I bought a 300 WM as a donor to convert to 6.5 PRC. I recently converted it to AICS mags for comps and am using 300 WM mags similar to Justin.

Not sure about ability to go to short action in the future in the XLR since mag lengths are different. Maybe there is a custom mag out there for this problem.

Not sure on this but 6.5 PRC is short action and seems to work for you with a 300 wm long action mag. So I would guess someone could use a 30-06/non-magnum AICS LA mag for this. Seems the bolt face of the cartridge per mag matters more than action length.

Hard caveat I’m just guessing based on the above using LA 300 wm mags for 6.5 PRC. I haven’t tried it myself.
