So I acquired a new T3 in 300wsm for $300 and want to make this a dedicated mule deer/elk gun. I was thinking of using a factory load in 165-185g for both. I would like to shoot this gun out to 600-700yards. Any recommendations on what I should feed through this? I shot it this past weekend at 200 with Federal Berger Hybrid hunters with a cheap scope and it shot good but thats the only option I had when I bought ammo at the time for it as well.

Id find a load with the 166g HAmmer bullets or a 165g TTSx and kill the hell out of them mule deer.

That Berger load isn’t bad at all. Let the air out of my bear quick a couple weeks ago(out of a tikka as well).

for that range, i would look at the 175 Barnes LRX, 168 TTSX, or any of the hammers in that weight range

Dang you scored, I say run the heaviest bullet you can in factory ammo or reload and use the Berger 215 for everything.

Go heavy. I would go with a 180gr ttsx or maybe a 180gr accubond, both can be found easily enough in factory loads. Bullets bigger than 180gr are not optimal for wsm.

I haven’t shot them but check out their stability calculator, it’ll let you know.

thanks I didn’t know about that, it says 215 are marginal and 200 stable in the 1-11

I have a Kimber Montana 300 wsm and I am shooting the 152 Hammer Hunter with RL16 at 3375 fps. I have a feeling that load will do things to an elk that won't let it go far. I will hopefully find out 1st rifle season

Has anyone shot the Hornady GMX in super performance or the federal trophy copper? Down range energy and speed seem to be impressive with those.

There are a lot of factory anmos that will shoot moa or better at 100-200y and have an es of 50. Run that to 700y, and that es of 50 can drop shots 5" low and turn your successful hunt into a chase of wounded game. If a shooter persues that kind of distance on animals, they owe the game the respect to use a setup that's going to go where the shooter aims and dispatch them efficiently. My 6.5 prc will shoot at or under moa with 143 eldx at 200y. But at 750y it's 10" groups due to the 50-60 fps es that ammo delivers.

Never even heard of those, those are very impressive numbers. I’m not aware of any other factory offering more impressive on paper.

Yeah that’s why I bought some to try out. Got my rifle back from GAP, they chopped it to 20“. Shooting with Ultra 7 I got about 2,920 for muzzle velocity. Ballistics with that bullet look pretty good.
