Anyone have any experience with the tiikka t3 superlight in 6.5 Creedmoor? If so what ammo have you found it likes? Its a tikka so probably most shoot well out of it...

Mine like 143 ELD-X. Good luck finding ammo! (Hard to find a bunch of different ammo to test out. When I was able to do so, mine liked the Hornady 143 ELD-X the best.)

Have one in a Lite. Shoots commercial ELD-X well but I run hand-load 129 gr ABLR in it. Insane how well that load shoots.

All the Sakos and Tikkas I’ve shot in .260 Rem which is nearly identical to 6.5 CM shoot the 129 grain SSTs really well.

This is my Tikka T3X Superlight that I’ve turned into a semi custom. Factory fluted stainless barrel from the Superlight is still on there.

Here’s a final 3 shot group (3 round mag) from last month, the evening before whitetail season opened in Northern Minnesota. Same bullets I mentioned above. 200 yards laying prone in a farm field. Bath towel as a rear rest. Spartan Javelin front bipod.

I have one and love it. Still not sold on fluted barrel though. I shoot ELD-X and Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip, both are .5 moa all day if I do everything right.

I bought one this year to try and start shooting left-handed bolt action rifles.

Very pleased.

It shot Hornady ELD-X 147g bullets about .5 moa, and those bullets performed well on a cow elk hunt last week. Sent two in her, and they both ended up stuck on the opposite hide from about 200 yards away. Full expansion and on the shot the elk took one step, waited 15 seconds as I shot her again just to be sure, then fell over.

I handful of threads on this but the tikka in 6.5C shoots well but a bit slow with factory loads. Speed is easily resolved with hand loads. Doesn’t effect accuracy just terminal energy.

If I recall the 143 factory shoot about 2600 from 24” superlite.

tikkas are great but if you get into the fluted barrels they take a little longer to cool it seems if you are going to be shooting a bit...but in hunting applications they would be great. even my t3 lite stainless is red hot after 3 shots with a 270wsm when at the bench....will be worse with a thinner barrel

They actually cool faster than a round barrel with the same OD due to increased exposed surface area and less thermal mass.

i was advised different but i dont know from experience as i have not owned those ulta thin barrels nor do i want to. i was told the main problem is the fact that they heat up much faster and hotter than a normal barrel. if they cool 10% quicker and heat up 25% hotter you are still going backwards to just use generic unverified percentages. haha

That’s not how it works. Heat is created by the powder burning and friction from the bullet passage- both of which are exactly the same between the thinnest contour available, and a 1.25” straight barrel. The inside of the barrel is the same temperature between them at a functional level.

Mine has worked well with a lot of different bullets but I’ve sort of decided that the 124g hammer hunter with Peterson brass and h4350 is so good out of this rifle that I’ll just stick to that.

About to pick one of these up as well. I don't reload so I'm limited to factory offerings. Does anybody have experience with the Federal Terminal Ascent, 130 grain out of the Tikka?
