Tikka T1X 17 HMR Varmint gun scope moint

Just picked up a 16” Tikka T1X 17 HMR from my local sporting goods store since it was on sale. Will be paring it with my Otter Creek Labs titanium suppressor.

I will be primarily using this set up for 50-200 yard shots on gophers. They also had an amazing deal ($150) for a Diamondback HP RIfle - Scope 4-16x 42mm Side Focus Dead-Hold BDC. Overkill , but couldn’t pass that up.


My question is, should I buy a rail or forgo and mount the rings directly to my weaver tail?

Should be plenty. I have one and it is so much fun to shoot. I haven’t found a load that it doesn’t shoot well actually.

I just used Talleys. They might crack down the road but I doubt it being on a .17 hmr.

I think Sportsmatch makes rings that fit. I personally got an Area419 15 MOA rail. But, as you have a dedicated scope for it, the rail has fewer advantages in your case.

I have an older Weaver GS 6-20 mounted on my Tikka in .17 HMR. Extremely accurate, especially with 17 gr TNT ammo. 1/4” - 1/2” groups at 50. Rail + med rings. Generally shoot it suppressed.

I’ve heard about Talleys cracking but I haven’t experienced it. Ten rifles, ten sets, no failures.
