I am assembling all the pieces for a semi-custom Tikka T3 300WSM build. The plan is a carbon/carbon built for mountain hunting hiking/stalking.

It started life as an early model T3 Hunter
CarbonSix pre-fit 22" carbon 1:11twist (I already have a ton of 150-180gr ammo)
Stockys Carbon VG
Triggertech Special
Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22

My question is about the action. Is there any reason NOT to use my T3 action? Is there any benefit to the T3X, CTR, Tactical actions?

Also, if I want to re-use this stock with another Tikka build in a smaller caliber, am I correct that any Tikka T3/T3X long or short action fits these stocks? You don't have to go with the same length like you would a Rem700 stock right?

Thanks

Your T3 will work just fine and yes that stock will fit the new T3x. Only one action size and T3/T3x are interchangeable…

If you haven’t already made the change, you might swap the aluminum recoil lug for a steel one.
I'm ordering a carbon bolt knob and upgrading the recoil lug from J/A Outdoors. Do I get anything out of upgrading the bottom metal? I'd like to still be able to use my factory magazines.

I’ve got upgraded aluminum bottom metal on a few of my customized Tikka’s and I honestly almost prefer the factory plastic. It’s kind personal preference obviously

Predominantly, no.

Easier to torque action screws to 65 in.lbs. (you need to add washers or some type of support on the factory plastic or risk the screws pulling through).

If you shoot with winter gloves, a Lumley Arctic trigger guard is nice.

Everything else is just preference and cosmetic.
