Tikka safety issue

I’m having issues with a new tikka safety that is working loose when shooting. It works loose to the point that the retainer clip actually falls off the pin. The safety pin has a slot in one side but not recessed all the way around like I would expect a “clip” retainer to work. I actually have a brand new rifle I pulled apart and was able to push the safety pin out while the retainer clip is in place just like what is happening with the rifle. Checked all my other tikka safety’s for evidence that the safety’s have wanted to work out but appears to be a non issue on all my others. This rifle was just rebarrelled to 6 prc and sites in a stockys stock. I could add some material to the stock to prevent the safety from pushing out to far but that kinda defeats the purpose of the retainer clip. Does anyone have any suggestions or experienced this before I start messing around?

I’m not near mine to look right now. But if the groove is not cut all the way around, then you need to be sure to clock the opening of the clip at that location. You can use pliers or a small socket that’s slightly larger than the pin and just push it on. Also, many clips have a slight chamfer on one side, you want that away from the securing edge (in this case you would want the chamfer facing the trigger housing).

Tried about everything now and that retainer clip really does not seem to have any sort of mechanical lock. Seems like it’s only using friction cuz I can push the safety out without a ton of issue. Like I said there is a flat on the safety pin itself but there is nothing on this little retaining clip that would lock it in. It’s weird this is the first I’ve heard of this issue. It will work loose while shooting to where the retainer falls right out of the mag area. It seems like the retainer should have a flat on the inner circle to key up with the slot in the pin.

I've never seen the pin/safety lever piece not have a groove for the clip. Can you pull the safety piece out of the trigger assembly and post a picture?

It’s hard to see in the photo but the pin doesn’t appear to be sticking out far enough for the circlip to have a solid connection.

You might need to get a new circlip.

Check out Jaoutdoors.com for a new Safety lever assembly.
