around a year ago there was a post about a model 70 safety conversion for the Tikka T3 sold by a European firm, German I think - there were comments about delivery delays with customs and cost, I bought one that turned out to be positioned on the left side of the action (meaning they're concept of right hand and left hand is backwards to ours) I put it away for later and I'll be darned if I can find it - Wondering if anyone can remember the thread or link since I can't

I thought I'd install it and then review my impressions and details of the project - I was mistaken on the "right hand or left hand" observation
It installs in the rear of the METAL bolt shroud with a pin that is fitted through the rear of the bolt (have to drill a hole it looks like) So it swings sort of across the rear of the bolt shroud with safe at one side, "unload" at rear center and fire at the other side - Its not yet installed so I don't know which side is fire and which is safe, THAT'S why I thought I would wait til I have my gunsmith help me install it before commenting

I was suggesting linking both this thread and the original discussion. I understand your wanting to install and review

Well, I now have a Tikka T3 superlight with a 3 position "swing" safety - As soon as I can figure the picture thing out I'll post some here but in the meantime feel free to text me 503-367-9705 and I'll be glad to send a pic or two
IMPRESSIONS: my gunsmith had no problem installing it in spite of the complete lack of tutorial and what is there is in German -
I think I mentioned this earlier, the "right hand" swings to fire position like a model 70 but on "safe" it's way over to the left, not at all like a model 70, I can't pull it from full safe to fire without holding the rifle at waist height to catch it with my thumb at the knuckle making it, for me, not possible to swing it from full safe to fire while shouldered (BUMMER) - Engineering is good, it's rough not unlike the occasional model 70 that just needs some working it back and forth to smooth up - So, I now have what I've been wishing for, a 3 pos. safety on my favorite Tikka - Am I totally happy with it ? "maybe, time will tell"

playing with it all morning, I think I'll like it just fine (but I will try the left hand version as soon as I can get one)

So overall, is it "worth" it? I know it's a subjective question but factoring in the cost, time and effort plus the "quirks" of how it functions.

Yes, I'd have to say it was worth it - must remember though, "I" like 3 position safeties and a lot of people don't see the need or sense of that sentiment - It IS NOT a model 70 safety exactly but close enough for me - I also like to tinker when I have time so this was right up my alley, I will try the left hand version and we'll see if that makes any difference or just a THIRD version to deal with ..... - Note, the apparatus is most all in the metal bolt shroud which can be removed in about 3 seconds albeit carefully so as not to lose the tiny little spring that is part of the new safety as well

I just ordered a LEFT HAND version - I'm not an engineer so it's difficult to get my head around the backwards concept after studying the picture with my Tikka on my lap but being a natural born experimenter I just ordered it - 160.45 Euros, I can't find the last receipt but that's the same price as the first one and I wasn't angry when I saw the actual $$ charge so .... we'll see what happens when I get it

1 dollar = .96 euro or 166.86$ you really do love your 3 way safety. Very nice design features though only having modified the shroud
