I'm wanting to put together a 18" threaded and suppressed 9.3x62 (maybe a 35 whelen, tough call). I'd like to rebarrel a tikka. Has anyone done this? Will any 30-06 or 270 tikka work? Any suggestions on barrel brands? Will any action work be needed for reliable feeding? Thanks!

Why not just buy one in 9.3x62? Tikka makes one, but it might be a bit hard to find.

For $1100-1250, EuroOptic has the excellent Sauer 100 in 9.3x62. As good an action as you could desire and probably cheaper than Tikka action + new barrel.

But, if you want to rebarrel one, any long action will work. Get a cheap .270 or 30-06.

By the way, I have an FN action 9.3x62 for sale on here.

I can't say I've done it, but with how similar the specs are to 30-06 or 35 whelen I can't see any reason that it wouldn't work fine. It should be plug and play with a 30-06 or 270 tikka.

For barrel, are you wanting to go with a prefit?

Are you concerned much with velocity loss? The bullets for those rifles don’t have great BCs.

You could always just rebore with JES. He does good work

I had a Ruger m77 stainless 270 win I had JES rebore to 35 Whelen- did NOT work. had about a 20% fail to fire issue that 3 different gunsmiths could not figure out. Pretty sure it was the mysterious headspace issue some claim doesn't exist but has been talked about forever with the Whelen... if you must do a .35Wln then consider the AI version since you will probably need to fire form brass anyway to avoid any issues etc.

To fix it I sent the rifle to McGowen barrels and they put on a new 9,3x62 barrel on it and has been great ever since. that's is what I should have done from the get go and saved lots of wasted money. Was pretty affordable to have them install if they are making the barrel. If you know someone military they do give a discount as well. Have them send it in...

I been eyeballing that 9.3 you got, just can’t figure out what it’s value vs other listings
