Tikka questions

I’m planning on buying a .243 tikka fast twist. I can buy a rough tech with a 20” barrel, fluted bolt and cerokote for $950 or a superlite 20” for $900. Either will be cut and retreaded to 16” and eventually put in a different stock.

It appears the RT is not stainless just coated, and I don’t see a weight listed but from research it looks like maybe 6.8lbs and SS 6.1lbs. Not much info on the 20” RT out there, on Sakos site the only 20” RT I can find is a RT lite.

Anyway my question is should I go stainless for $50 less or does the fluted bolt and bigger knob make it worth it over the SS. I’ve had cerokote rifles and have had zero issues. I’d imagine I could resell the RT stock to make up the $50 difference over the SL stock.

Anything I’m missing on these? Should I just grab the superlite from sportsman’s or order the rough tech?

Just came in yesterday. Sighted in only… 3 shots. I was thinking about chopping this from 20” to 17”…but I’m gonna just shoot it for now.
My can is only 7” long so I may leave it be.

Looks good, so is it carbon or stainless?

I would go with the SS one. A fluted bolt just means more crap gets into your action.

243 Winchester Stainless Lite. 20" fast twist. If I chopped 4" off the barrel, I'd end up under 5 lbs. I could shave a couple of oz.'s off the complete build if I dumped the pic rail and went with lighter rings. I like to swap scopes, so a pic rail is a must for me.

A superlite would obviously weigh less.
A roughtech would weigh about the same. Plus, I don't like the idea of chopping a fluted barrel when there are lightweight barrels without the flutes.

If you are going to change the stock, there is no reason to buy the roughtech.

Honestly, I have no idea. I just searched SAKO’s website and didn’t find the answer there either. So maybe ask Jake at EO?
It really doesn’t matter to me, I’m happy with the matte cerakote finish.

It was an ounce an inch for my 308 when I cut it.
I don’t think you’ll drop 19 ounces from the barrel chop.

I was referencing the top picture. I only need 3 oz to get under 6lbs.

The bottom photo is how I plan to keep it setup. If I wanted to build a really light rig, I would chop 4" off the barre, remove the rail, use the 1" rings I have that mount directly to the tikka and install a Leupold 2.5-10x40 I have sitting in my safe.

I think it would end up around 6.5-6.8lbs. I could definitely be wrong.

I would just get the regular t3x light in stainless and save a few hundred.
