Tikka question

Plan is to build a left hand 22 Creedmoor. Easiest way is to start with a Tikka in 6.5 CM. Choices are buy one with the cheap plastic stock or spring another $600 and go for the Alpine model and get a nicer stock and a fluted bolt.

Stay with the cheap model and add a aftermarket stock later ( I am a fan of McmIllan)?
Or spend the cash now and buy the Alpine model?

Going the McMillan route will end up costing a few hundred more than the Alpine but that doesn't bother me much.

I’d go with a base stainless model. The alpine is the same plastic stock, just has fancy camo on it. You’re also paying extra for the fluted barrel that you’re removing anyways.

The easiest way is to take a 1:8 twist 22-250 and send it to have the chamber reamed to 22 Creedmoor.

I bought a 350 Legend Compact from EO. Sold stock for $175 and bolt body for $200. Bought a standard bolt body with the money. Got a Preferred Barrel for $569 and still have the Legend barrel. I already had a Peak stock. Shoots 80gr Hornady Precision ELD-X’s at an average of 3105fps. If I were to do it again I’d get the EO Closeout .243 with the 1in8 twist, sell the barrel and the bolt is good to go. Left hand would be fewer options though.

I’d buy the cheaper option, and then swap to the stock of your choice. As much as I love my tikkas, I am not impressed with their factory stocks.
