Im looking at getting a new deer rifle and have shouldered a few of the limited selection of rifles at a couple shops. the two that seemed to fit me the best were the Tikka Veil Wideland and the Bergara B14 ridge. Does anyone have any input on either of these rifles? If I had to pick just based on shouldering the Tikka felt better. But the extra weight of the Bergara felt more solid and like it would be easier to hold steady on a shooting rail.

Any input is much appreciated.

I own a Bergara B14 hunter 6.5CM and a Tikka T3x in 300wsm. Both rifles shoot well and are comfortable to shoot. If you plan on modifying the rifle I would go with the Tikka. As for weight, my Tikka is a quite a bit lighter, making it more difficult to shoot, but easier to carry. If you plan on getting a shooting rail with an arca attachment I would go with the Tikka. The Bergara has a plastic reinforcement down the middle channel of the stock making the stock difficult to drill in to.

Both guns would work great, it just depends on what you expect to use your rifle for.

I own two Bergaras in 308. The first is a Premier Approach which shoots certain factory ammo insanely well and shoots a wide variety of ammo well. The second is the B14 Wilderness Ridge SP. I love the gun but damn it's picky with ammo. I've finally found what it will eat but it was expensive and annoying to figure out. If you read the Bergera groups on Facebook you'll see others have the same problem. The bergara b14 series is in the same price range as the tikka so I would be comparing those two. And I believe the 308 Tikka is much more forgiving with regard to ammo selection. Another thing to think about though, Bergara customer service is far superior to Tika. So, as with most things there's no free lunch.

My personal preference is Bergara. I have a Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge in 6.5 CM and it is an absolute tack driver. Shoots .25 moa with Hornady 140 ELDM. The little extra weight makes it much more comfortable to shoot compared to any tikkas I’ve shot. Not only is it comfortable to me but any person I’ve ever put behind the rifle has been able to shoot it flawlessly. I’ve had my dad, 2 brothers, mom, sister, a few cousins and many good friends shoot this rifle and not a single one of them hasn’t been able to shoot it well. And that’s not just because it’s a magical 6.5 CM that never misses😉

Both are probably the two best barrel makers with production guns. I have carried a Tikka T3 lite for hundreds of miles over the last 20 years. Tikkas are very accurate, and are a pleasure to carry and shoot. The adj trigger is excellent on the T3. I would say get the one that suits you.
