I saw an RCBS die set for 6.5 Weatherby RPM at Sportsmans today, and it made me wonder why people with a standard Tikka bolt face who are playing with barrel swaps never bring this up as an option?

This has crossed my mind as well. I suppose a lot of it just comes down to popularity and brass/ammo availability. Not to mention the cost of all that vs the prc which is gaining popularity in a hurry.. But it sure seems like the tikka action would be perfect to build it on!

I have a Tikka sitting here and I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. The only issue is brass. Every time I've had a Weatherby I've said never again because of the brass price, and how crappy the brass is. I was hoping they would outsource to someone like ADG or Peterson.

My dad is building one on a 700 30-06 action. Ballistically, it's going to out-perform the PRC that I'm building. It should be an inherently accurate cartridge, since it is an elongated 6.5-284. I'm excited to see what we are able to get out of his with 140-156 bullets.

I am unfamiliar with brass, I assume you are likely much more knowledgeable. Who actually makes all of the brass? Does most every ammunition maker make all of their own brass in house, or is it more a long the lines of there are really a few brass manufacturers that OEM for the many more various ammo producers, and the head stamp is the only change?

Is there any reason that the cartridge would not work in an off the shelf 30-06 tikka with a barrel change? I am unfamiliar with if it being rebated comes into play for the magazine or not.

Norma makes all of Weatherby's brass, so it should always be better than Hornady. It also depends on how hard you push the brass too.

As mentioned about Norma makes it but Weatherby makes the price for it. It's just a little soft for me.

That's the same rifle I am thinking about trying it in. From what I understand it should work.

I don’t see how it would fit in a tikka. I am running a 25-284 in a tikka with LA bolt stop. With long Bullets like ace, there is room left in the mag but not enough to use a longer piece of brass. Unless the bullet is stuffed way in there. He’ll, I was at max length with a 25-06 and a 100grn ttsx.

Aren't the 300win and 7rem magnum cartridges available in the Tikka platform? Forgive my ignorance, if those fit, why wouldn't the 6.5RPM?

I’m running a 6.5 RPM on a modified Kimber Montana 84L. You should have no issues with the tikka platform. I’m seating mine out to 3.4 something if I remember correctly

It will fit.

It might be a moot point soon- word on the street is Tikka is going to start chambering 6.5 PRC this year. Getting a factory rifle in that caliber is going to look a whole lot nicer and cost a whole lot less here pretty soon than trying to buy the gun and rebarrel. Unless you have a Tikka already that is

That last part would be me. One tikka, multiple barrels.

Some quick # crunching - if you seated a 156 berger with the ogive side of the bearing surface at the mouth of the case, you'd be at 3.335" COAL. The 156 is certainly longer than almost all 6.5 bullets so it wouldn’t be as bad with some others. Long story short, it would work but be a little limited by factory mag length.
