Tikka full size vs compact

i think i'm about to pull the trigger on a tikka and am really considering getting the compact in .308 instead of a full size. seems like it would be a handy size. my main hunting is done at shorter ranges (under 200 yards) in mature hardwood forests and shots opportunities come quick. just wondering if the LOP is going to be too short but i saw that it comes with a spacer and i'll be using wearing multiple layers of clothing. my bow draw length is 28" so that may give an idea on my wingspan. biggest concern is eye relief on the scope i'm guessing. would probably fit it up with a 2-7 or 3-9 x 40mm so nothing too big.

I have a tikka T3 Lite in 30-06 and my Dad has a compact in .308. He bought the .308 for the grandkids. My 12 yr old nephew will be moose hunting with the compact this weekend. My 9 yr old also shoots the compact very well. We have a 2.5-8x36 Leupold on it.

I love love the compact. We also have a ruger compact and savage lightweight hunter. I like the small stocks on all of them.

I do not think accuracy suffers using the small stock. It handles so nice. However when I shoot prone or off a bench the full size tikka is more comfortable.

I would not hesitate getting a compact for a second.

USUALLY....one can shoot a shorter stock fairly well but a too long stock is difficult.
Although I'm 5'10" and of very average build, I prefer my stocks a bit short so I can get a full scope view from odd positions with foul weather clothing on.

I am 5' 10" with a 28" draw. I hunt with a Model 7 which has a short LOP and love it in the deer stand. When I am in the shooter house the full size Tikka goes with me. Go for it.

Any updates on the new rifle? I ordered the same rifle yesterday.

so far so good. i haven't had any extended time at the range but i got it cleaned up and sighted in so i could hunt this season. with scope and sling i'm just slightly over 7# which is less than my last rifle weighed naked. i didn't end up using the spacer as i was comfortable with the length of pull. it's a really handy length rifle for both stand and still hunting. i'm not a real connoisseur when it comes to rifles and am generally pretty hard on them. they're really nothing more than a tool to me and this looks like it will fit the bill.

Sound good. I just picked my rifle yesterday and it is a perfect fit for me. I'm hoping to make it out to the range today.
