So, my CTR shoots like a dream and it's packable but still on the heavy side so it went on a diet.
I took the pic rail off along with the bottom metal and the CTR magazine.
I replaced the bottom with factory T3 plastic guard. Bought from JA Outdoors. Bought a couple 223 mags from EuroOptic and in order for all this to work, you need to install the metal magazine retention spring which the CTR does not have. Bought one from mountain tactical.
Trimmed over a pound and with a salmon river solutions arca rail, a trijicon tenmile scope, she is at 9 pounds, 1 ounce.
And it still shoots like shit.......😉

You know... if you got a custom barrel, you could get that cold bore in the center! 10x, nice shooting.

I was out shooting my Tikka 243 today. Those north Euros can sure make a well functioning rifle.

Thanks for saving me some time! As a new Tikka CTR owner, I have been trying to figure out how to do the exact same thing :)

You copied me! You even got it with the bolt on the correct side!

Mine's nearly identical: exactly 9 pounds with the SM rings, SWFA 3-9 and Waters mag / T3 bottom. I did cerakote it for weather protection. Its my favorite rifle to shoot, the gun doesn't move. And with the 80eldm it has some reach.

@mtnwrunner, the timing on this is pretty amazing. I have an opportunity to buy either a 20” or 24” CTR at an amazing price, but the weight has been giving me pause. Just hoping to confirm I understand this correctly, you cut over a pound by removing the rail and by switching to T3x lite bottom metal and mag? If so, jeez, I’ll be doing the same thing. Hoping to stay under ten pounds all up suppressed with the 20” and an SHV 3-10.

Do you happen to have the bare rifle weight after the diet? Thanks in advance for any info!

Yes, I think it was 1 pound, one ounce. I should have measured the bare rifle but I didn't.

Chalk this up to Rokslide spending more money. Local shop has a stainless CTR on clearance for $739… guess I’ll buy it and introduce it to this new fad diet. Thanks!

Hey fellow CTR weight watchers. Wanted to post some photos of some weights I pulled off my rifle today. Picked this sucker up for $736 out the door brand new. She’s heavy but with a few of these tips from @mtnwrunner , she’ll be climbing hills in no time.

I had a hard time finding these types of weights on the interwebs so hopefully they’re helpful to someone in the future.

24” CTR in its factory form:

CTR rail and hardware:

CTR mag and bottom metal:

CTR stock with mag:

CTR stock without mag inserted:

Stoked. I figure once I chop the barrel to 20” and swap to the lite bottom metal (plastic) and mag, I’ll be hovering around the 7lb mark. Now to shoot this thing before getting ahead of myself ordering stuff.

Sorry for the necropost but thanks for getting the info out there! Looking to do the same with a 20" 308 Win CTR and hoping that it is balanced well and handy enough with a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40
