Tikka CTR converted to a magnum cartridge?

I have a Tikka ctr in 6.5 creed that I bought with the intent of rebarreling to a faster 6mm like a Creed or 243 Ai and it got me wondering if anyone has converted a CTR to shoot something in the PRC or SAUM family. I put a 7 SAUM case in the mag and aside from being a bit long because of the 180gr bullet it looks like it would feed something with a 6mm bullet. Obviously a standard sized case would be the easy button and I am intrigued by the 6 SAW.

If wanting to go with a magnum in your CTR action:

- Get a magnum bolt or have your bolt face opened
- Get a different bolt stop
- Get an appropriate length magazine depending on the cartidge

Relatively simple to accomplish. You could consider selling your current rifle and then picking up a magnum Tikka from Eurooptic, then pull the barrel, etc.

You could go 6 PRC or 6 UM. Usually some feed lip tweaks can get a magazine feeding the cases. Sometimes the follower. Someone may have converted a CTR already.

As above, you can sell the CTR and pick up a new magnum bolt face action. If you keep the CTR, I am sure you could trade for a magnum bolt.

Depending on purpose, a 22 creed gets you some magnum type speeds.

What bullet, what distance, what barrel length?

Well I live close to Kampfeld who regularly opens up bolt faces for UM and that was what i figured i would do. I already have a 7 SAUM, it isn't my intent to make another, I just pushed a case in to the CTR mag to see if it would fit and if a magnum case 6mm would be an option. If memory serves me right I think the inside coal is around 2.980. I have had a long internal debate with myself over a 22 Creed vs a fast 6mm and currently the 6mm is winning with the recent developments in Sierra's TMK line. I was hoping someone out there has already converted a CTR to a magnum case as I think it will work but if not i'd probably just stick with a standard case.

There’s nothing different about the CTR action over a T3x magnum. The actions are all the same length. The only difference is the bolt face, bolt stop, and magazine. Change those out and you have no issue.

However, Tikka is not a great platform for a 300 WM, 300 PRC, etc due to magazine restrictions, but if you stick to something like a 7 PRC length, or 6UM, 6 PRC, they work great.
