tikka bottom “metals” and AICs mags?

Help me out with Tikka bottom metals.

What I have:
- Tikka in 6 ARC (standard bolt bushed for proper case head)
- Rokstok inletted for tikka standard bottom metal (which I hopefully receive soon)

What would I need with this setup to use AICS mags for 6arc? Like the MDT AICs mags for 6 ARC? Or any others

I haven’t decided on what the “best” mag option is yet for the tikka on 6 arc

Waters Rifleman has a bottom metal for AICS mags but some fitting is required.

I have used that one and can confirm that it will fit the factory inletting just fine. I ended up moving away from it as it was on a hunting rifle and AICS mags rattle too much for me.

I was thinking about doing this as well on 1 of my rifles. Did you try the polymer mdt mags? I use those un my XLR and they are pretty quiet. Curious how they would be with this bottom metal.

I also found this mentioned on another thread - primal rights 6br AICS conversion kit. Converting a standard AICS mag to 6br type which is also compatible with 6arc. I guess my real objective is the best mag option off a 6arc in a tikka standard bottom metal inlet

The AICS conversion kit you mentioned was exactly what I was looking at as well. If I end up committing to a Tikka 6 ARC, this is probably the route I'd go. I don't really care for a 10-12 round MDT mag. Converting a 3-5 round AICS seems better in my mind.

I did not. Mainly because back when I experimented with it, MDT wasn't making them. Plus, I learned that I wasn't gaining much over the factory mags by going to an AICS.

I used tikka m+ 3 rd mag and didn’t have any real problems but there is a lot empty space. Got a couple 5 rd m mags and cycling it some I was having some issues. But i wasn’t really using it like i would in the field. Just had me thinking about going the AICs route. Little spendy though.

That seems like a good first option for sure. Like you mentioned above, swapping to AICS will be a spendy venture.

My Howa Mini 6 ARC shoots "ok", but could see a Tikka doing better (plus, I prefer a Tikka action over that of the Howa). In the end though, it'd probably be a bit cheaper for me to snag a pre-fit for my TL3 and a new bolt face.

Well tikka mags and tikka mag conversions weren’t running like I’d like in the 6arc. So went all in - redsnake short action hunter AICS bottom metal, AICS 5 rd with primal conversion kit to 6br/arc and a 10 rd steel MDT 6 arc AICS mag. Should have it all here in a week or so to assemble and mess with

There’s a substantial chance the bottom rails on your rokstok will not allow for an AICS mag to get high enough. Including on the CTR inlets. Call Alek at UM.

Thanks - I remember now from a previous post of yours there was an issue with fit on a ctr inlet rokstok. Should have the bottom metal within a few days and I’ll it check out. And give UM a call if I can’t get it right.

Where are you obtaining the bolt face from? I want a tikka in 6.5 Grendel and was thinking of a 350 legend , pull the barrel and mill out the bolt face. You mentioned a bushing?

Kampfeld customs did the bushing on a standard tikka bolt face. And it works great. I’m not even entirely sure what “bushing” a bolt is as I can’t tell what was done exactly just by looking at it. I think he machines out the face and inserts a “bushing” to match the case head you need. Regardless he was easy to work with and did great work.

Well… got it all together and… so far I really like it!

- Tikka chambered for 6arc
- Redsnake nextgen short action tikka AICs hunter bottom metal
- AICS 5 round 308 mag with primal conversion kit to 6BR
- MDT metal 10rd 6arc AICS mag

All fit into the new Rokstok

Have only cycled through a few mags of both sizes but zero issues, smooth cycling, no failure to feeds, etc. mags fit tight, no clanking sounds. Might be because of a snug bottomed metal fit.

It took more removal than I expected to get the bottom metal and than the mags to fit but was not too bad. Did it all with a cheap dremel. Might have knicked the edges a little but not bad and only cosmetic and I’m not entirely share that’s not how the inlet was anyway.

Spendy - yep. But the best it’s felt feeding the tikka 6arc so far although only a few mags cycled through and I haven’t shot it yet
