Tikka bottom metal

Hello everyone!!

I’ve got a tikka 6.5PRC that I installed a proof barrel and a rokstock and am looking for a good recommendation for an easy bottom metal and metal mags. I don’t want anything that I have to really modify, just a drop in if possible? Also, anyone have experience with an aftermarket trigger on these? Thanks in advance!

Most of the aftermarket aluminum bottom metals are good to go and all of them are pretty much at the same price point, so pick the one that suits your fancy. I have used Atlasworx, Mountain Tactical, Oregon Mountain, and High Desert. All of them do what I want them to do.
For metal mags, I use Mountain Tactical and HCA. That being said, my preference is factory polymer. The only reason I am using the other two is that two of my rifles are chambered in fat wildcats with minimal body taper and those magazines feed those cartridges more reliably that factory.
Tikka factory triggers are damn-near perfect. No need to go aftermarket on them. If you want it to be a bit lighter, back the screw out until it touches the trigger group screw. Don't mess with the trigger group screw.

I’ve used high desert for the bottom metal and mag. It requires shims for the action bolts to get the mag height right for feeding and staying in the stock. Great product but not exactly plug and play.

Not sure I'd spend money on after market bdm.
Just buy mags from Rugged Stitching. They're awesome!

As far as a trigger goes the oem is the best bet.
Bbbbuuutttt....

I somehow lost my oem trigger in my trainer. Not sure how but I needed to buy a new trigger. I bought a TT special flat face. Not sure what the weight is but probably a touch under three. It's freaking nice.

Now is it that much better than oem?

My 6 UM oem trigger sometimes feels creepy and I can feel the mechanisms working as I press it. Honestly wasn't even an issue until I'd put a thousand rounds through the Triggertech. So for me it's not worth spending the extra money on one. Unless I randomly found a great price on a TT and my lack on impulse control kicks in.

A wise man told me that a shooter should dictate his capabilities on how good or bad a trigger is. A good shooter can be good with whatever.

I like the PR Precision bottom metal the best. For magazines, I prefer Waters, pods8, and OEM in my 6.5 Creed and .243.

I personally would not mess with the Tikka trigger. It’s very good as it is and I have had and seen too many poor experiences with aftermarket springs and people not tightening the trigger group enough.

Glad to hear that. My experience was using the factory stock. When my RokStok comes, hopefully it fits without the shims. It was frustrating having to keep mounting/remounting the action to add or remove shims until the mag to fit right but the bottom metal quality was really good.

All of my bottom metals have been drop in and I have used them with factory stocks, McMillan stocks, a Manners stock (that is where my High Desert one is currently), and Stocky's stocks. No fitting required. A couple of them have a bit of gap on the sides with Stocky's stocks, but nothing I can't live with.

My MT mags are used with my MT bottom metal, so drop in.

The HCA mags I have are being used with the OMR bottom metal. Also "drop in".

The rest of my Tikkas use factory mags and I have zero issues with fitting. No reliability issues either, but then again, I am not as hard on my stuff as some here as I live in the East and just visit the West. The mountains of WV, the peanut fields of GA, and the pine forests and farms of SC where I spend most of my hunting time just aren't as hard on stuff as the Rockies.

Out of all manufacturers, what do you prefer most?

The problem is, I’m trying to compare my factory to a trigger to triggertech in a few custom builds, and it is a world of difference. I will try adjusting the weight on the Tikka and go from there.

They are all pretty similar. TBH the only reason I go with aluminum bottom metal is that I have damaged a couple of factory ones when torquing the action screws to 65 in-lbs. With the metal, I don't have to worry about it.
If I do end up building another Tikka, I will probably use AtlasWorx again and run polymer mags, either factory or @pods8 (Rugged Stitching) ones.

Both my rokstocks required some sanding, dremling and shims to get to fit and mags to work properly. Each stock in different areas for the same bottom metal
