So I took my Tikka bolt apart to degrease the firing pin due to heavy bolt lift when firing pin not cocked. I watch multiple videos so as not to screw it up, but inevitably ended up screwing it up. I am not by any means new to bolt action rifles but new to Tikka and feel like an absolute idiot for not being able to figure this out on my own.
From the videos I saw, they recommended putting an Allen wrench in the recess between the black cocking assembly and the metal portion of firing pin body to allow the cocking assembly to be positioned to the rear and fixed in place. I did this and had some difficulty getting the bolt handle out. Eventually, I was able to remove it, but when reassembling I could not get the bolt handle in no matter how I manipulated the cocking assembly. During a forceful and unsuccessful attempt to replace the bolt handle the Allen wrench fell out. Now I have two problems and would greatly appreciate anyone’s help or redirection to a previous discussion on here that I cannot find.
Problem 1: I now cannot get the cocking assembly to the rear and tried shoelace method, hands, etc., and I’m not sure whether having an Allen wrench in that recess is even necessary to get the bolt handle in place.
Problem 2: Even if I am able to re-insert the Allen wrench in the recess I cannot for the life of me get the bolt handle back in place.
I feel like an idiot asking for help, but after more than an hour of screwing things up on my own, I figured I’d turn to people who know more than me for help. Thanks in advance!
