Tikka action help deciding.

I have a buddy that has a Tikka action that he wants to sell. He offered it to me knowing I was interested in possibly building a new rifle. It’s a long action and I have to act fast since his own brother wants it as well. He wants $685.00 for it. I have been on the fence about building a 7mm PRC or just buying one of the Weatherby 307 Alpine CT rifles. They are under 2K on GB and looking at building the tikka with a proof CF pre fit barrel and a mini chassis hunting stock like a manners puts me right around $2500.00. Just unsure if the Tikka would be the right decision. There’s so much conflicting information on the tikka as a whole but it seems most are in agreement that the action is good. Just needing some help deciding. Thanks

I’d say even if it’s stainless action at that price it isn’t a steal or anything.

If you want it, have at it. Can get a PRC OEM barrel for close to $200 if you’re patient.

It is technically a LA and a SA. All tikka actions are the same FWIW minus bolt faces and bolt stop.

I’d confirm it is a magnum bolt face. Thats the only big show stopper but can be easily traded on here.

A 7PRC new stainless sells for $900 at Scheels for reference.

Tikkas are awesome IMO. I wouldn’t worry about that part. The only more expensive gun I’d consider at this point is a seekins

agreed, not a great price (to the disdain of many a tikka resellers) You can often find completes new for that or less

Tikkas are cool but I'd let the brother have it at that price.

My buddies would get a better deal than that.

The 20" factory barrels are hard to beat if you can find one that suits you and then you can just throw the stock away.

If it has to be 7PRC grab this guy and toss the stock and the barrel:

Not a great price and if you just need an action you can get a while rifle to part out from eurooptic for less than that.

Yep. I can see an action that is brand new never used and backed by some company assurance that it was disassembled professionally might cost about the same as an assembled new rifle that’s on sale. Its a convenience price for the labor and because many of the parts wont sell quickly. But imo a used stainless action should cost 450-500 max. Subtract 50 for blued. That doesnt mean you’ll find one for that price, its just the price where I personally think it makes sense to buy an action. Others may have no problem paying a bit more, I dont know. But given the choice Im buying the brand new never used stainless full rifle for like $15 more.
