Tikka accuracy question

Will happily buy it off you, or spin on a 6.5cm factory takeoff for shipping only. This is rare but not unheard of with Tikkas. I'm sure UM would make you the same offer. Great guys with great CS.

Gun is for sale!
10 shot group below

For reference, I simultaneously shot one of my custom 6.5 CM. That’s a 20 shot group!

I don’t think I’m gonna deal with this thing anymore. I’m embarrassed to say, I drank the unknown munitions koolaid with this Tikka.

UM pushes Tikka 7PRC’s as koolaid? News to me.

That is the type of groups that happen when the lug isn’t seated, and/or the action is loose in the stock.

But, if you did get it from UM take it back. @Unknown Munitions if this rifle was bought from yall, and he brings it back- please take it for Shoot2Hunt. I would like to look at it and see what is happening.

This screams of unseated recoil lug or action screws torqued to half the required values at a minimum.

Send this back to UM and find out what’s going on please.

Yep. @Formidilosus beat me to it. OP please send this gun back so it can be diagnosed by Form.

I did buy it from UM. The action screws are torqued to 45 inch pounds (I experimented with 55 and 65 inch pounds with no difference at all). Recoil lug is absolutely seated properly. I took great care to make sure it was. To be fully transparent, I only tried three different loads, with no distinguishable difference between the 3. ELDM shot a tiny bit better than the ELDX. The group picture I uploaded today was with UM loaded Berger Hybrid targets. The worst groups so far from this rifle. I listened to your tutorial while mounting the scope. Everything was degreased, leveled, and torqued to spec. Paint pens and loc tite were also used.
I upgraded the trigger to a timney, upgraded to the UM recoil lug and the mountain tactical bottom metal. The barrel is fully floated. I don’t think there’s anything else I can do (without re-barreling and buying a new stock). Thanks

My Tikka 7PRC shoots anywhere from 0.7 MOA to 3+ MOA with Hornady 180 ELDMs. Different lit numbers are vastly different. Try different lots.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But it’s torqued to spec and seated properly.

Would you mind posting photos of the rifle showing us the action properly seated on the lug?

Look, it’s not unheard of for a Tikka to shoot like shit. It’s just incredibly rare and almost always has something to do with an error somewhere in the overall rifle system.

I’d recommend taking advice from folks with a ton of experience with these rifles trying to help you diagnose. Instead of snarky replies showing that your ego is fragile.

I never made a snarky reply, lol. On the contrary, I appreciate the feedback. I experimented with the recoil lug considerably. I purposely seated it incorrectly a few times so that I knew what it would look like in the event that it was off. Pics attached. Thanks

Sry @RogerSanchez that sucks and I would be frustrated too. Does it shoot poorly without the suppressor or with a different suppressor?

Also sry off topic but if you don't mind sharing the velocities on the factory loads I would appreciate it. Ty

Today I used a TBAC ultra 7. Last week I used the TBAC Magnus S RR. I haven’t shot it without a suppressor. I suppose I could try. Thanks

Even if it's seated properly it could be a rare case where the lug is proud and flexing the action, or something of the like. As stated previously it is possible the barrel is a dud, but knowing Tikka quality and new chamber geometry I would bet on an issue other than that.

If you're serious about selling . . . How much you looking to get for it?

Did you check the screw lengths on the MT rail? I haven't used them for some years now, but I had 3 - 20 MOA MT Tikka rails in a row on which the very front screw was too long. Guessing they just included the same screw set as the non canted units. Not sure if they remedied that these days or not? I had shorter screws to swap in, so just ran them without sending back or asking for the proper screws, but it always made me wonder how many folks just ran the very front screw too long. You also mentioned new action screws; if you didn't already, might want to make sure that the front action screw isn't a thread or two too long.

Most Tikkas I've ran were really easy to dial in with a number of factory loads, but I've certainly had plenty of finicky rifles through the years. I have a 1:8 300 Win mag that was a real bugger to get the groups I was looking for out of. Had the whole thing apart several times thinking that something had to be kissing something somewhere, but never did find anything obvious. Tried a few different bullets, powders, brass, and finally landed on a combination it really, really likes.

Unless you've sanded out the barrel channel a ton, that's exactly what they look like when the recoil lug is not set correctly in the action/stock.

I'm just trying to things that might cause some variance. Suppressor would be one of them, but if you're always going to shoot with one maybe just leave it on for now. You have a lot of extras, i'd possibly try going back to OEM recoil lug and bottom metal and getting it as close as it came from the factory and starting from scratch. 7 prc ammo is expensive though, id definitely reach out to UM on Monday and see if they have any suggestions

if you didn’t dremal out that channel a bunch that’s typically what they look like if you are not seated well.

I know because when i did mine, that’s exactly what it looked like and I had similar groups. Then it dawned on me, I took it apparent matched it up and it was money.

If not as big as a tikka dealer as UM is I’m sure they will take care of you

I'd throw it in the cull pile. I don't have much patience when I have dozens of rigs that shoot spectacular lil groups. That B gotta go. Past my patience barrier.
