Tikka 7mm Rem Mag 20” build

Quick run down on a recent build.

• Tikka T3 Roughteck in 7mm Rem Mag
• Nightforce NX8 4x32
• factory barrel chopped down and threaded to 20”
• Silencerco Omega 300 + ASR brake
• HSM Factory 168gr Berger HVLD
• Weight with rifle, scope, suppressor, brake @ 9lb 13oz

Ran it through the chronograph, averaged 2735fps for anyone who is wondering. I did a lot of searching on this forum and the fps was one of my big questions. I already have a 6.5cm that I had cut to 18” and was getting around 2550fps, but I was a bit nervous about chopping a 7 rem mag. I’m happy.

I shaved 2lbs off of my previous hunting rifle and jumped up in caliber. I’ll attach a couple of files below and include a velocity chart for those interested. I figure this is an honest to God 600 yard rifle for critters.

Here you go, fellas. This is about as good as I can get. Unfortunately, I’ve already mounted that ASR brake and it would be a real b**** to get off. Does this help?

Just a tad more info. We put the scope on, got it on paper outside at 100yds. Then we moved inside to my buddies range he had built under his shop. Pretty dang cool going from 28mph sustained winds outside to a completely climate controlled range inside to zero. Shot 1/2 to 3/4 honest groups for me, I’m sure he could have done better though.

It was! Since then, that action and barrel have been pulled from the stock and put into a chassis. It got even better. My brother borrowed it a week ago and shot a nice 32” aoudad with it. Newest project is a 6.5PRC, but 7RM will always be my first true love

I was contemplating chopping a 7RM Tikka to 20". Thanks for the info.

BTW, I found it interesting that Ruger will offer all of its Standard model Gen II American rifles with 20" barrels, including for magnum cartridges. However, it appears the 7RM was dropped from the lineup and replaced with the 7PRC.

Have they?Why would they drop 7RM? That actually surprises me given the following of the cartridge. I know that eventually 7PRC is going to own the 7mm market, but dang. It ain’t there yet. Or I didn’t think it was.

Don't hold me to it...I just don't see the 7RM as an available option at the link provided (Ruger website).
