Tikka 270 ammo question

I am considering the purchase of a tikka t3 lite in 270 win. I already have a nice 270 in walnut stock that shoots lights out. Great rifle that I have taken game with but I am looking for a second rifle that is more suited to packing...lighter and no worries if it gets banged up, but lighter is main interest. The 270 round does everything I need it to do and since the t3 is built on a long action I see no reason to go short action caliber, especially if I can use the same round. I could have two 270's and use the same ammo, take them on trips and have a backup rifle, etc. I currently shoot factory Barnes Vortx in 130gr ttsx. Factory loads.

My question is to those current owners of tikka t3's who have shot Barnes bullets. And I'll preface by saying that I know that no one can say for certain how a given type of ammo will shoot out of a rifle until you try it. I get that. I just wanted to see if there was any consensus that tikka's tended to like Barnes ttsx most of the time, some of the time, never, etc. Again, not looking for anyone to tell me what'll shoot, just looking for what your experience has been to see if I can base my buying decision off that feedback. Thanks.

Can't comment on the Barnes but can say mine loves hornady ssts! It did not like federals one bit scattered them all over. Once you find the correct round you will love the tikka👍

I live in California. Nice weather. Horrible gun laws. Most of the area I hunt (Central California) already requires lead free ammo. In a couple years the whole state goes that way. Lame. I know. I'd be able to find a round that worked in it but I currently shoot the Barnes in my 270 so that's why I asked specifically about that bullet in the tikka. Keep it coming. Thanks.

i too would love to try the barnes. just got a wood stocked tikka 270 for the wife. it shoots factory superformance with 130gr gmx right at 1in. couple groups were .75in. velocity out of the 22in barrel was 3025fps avg. i know its not barnes, but hope that helps.

My tikka loves Barnes ammo, but I handload. I've heard that generally speaking tikka's like Barnes and hornady.

Hornady gmx is most accurate in my t3 .270, & its another lead free round. I don't shoot them cuz they don't hit the same place my cheap lead practice rounds hit, & I cant afford to practice with the gmx. Had a Ruger in .270 that hated vortex ammo, & I don't see a lot of good reviews on it, so I haven't tried it my t3. I practice with the cheap federal blue box lead ammo & all of the federal/barnes ammo that Ive tried hits in the same place as the cheap stuff, so I just shoot that since it groups moa. Federal has some new blue box/barnes that are under $25 a box, so Im looking forward to trying that. It would be nice to be able to practice & hunt with the same ammo, especially on the cheap! Havnt gotten serious about hand loading for it yet but what little I have loaded up has all shot moa. That's all a I have to say about that.

Tikka T3x superlight ..... take a look at the Nosler Etip in 270/130 too - I have not had much luck with accuracy trying Etips but the 130's have been the exception to that, I've got them to shoot very well in several Tikka T3's and they are a DAMN good bullet for terminal performance - As with all monolithic bullets the problem seems to be length and bearing surface - comparing a .30 180 Accubong next to a .30 168 Etip tells the story

Tikka T3 lite 270WSM shooting factory Nosler trophy grade 140 gr Accubonds at .5-.75 MOA depending on how I'm shooting that day. I never tried anything else out of it since I bought a box of the nosler trophy grade for the brass and rifle break in and after seeing how it shot just decided to stick with it. That being said I had the same gun in a 22-250 and it shot the federal blue box at .75-1 MOA. You should have lots of ammo options for the 270 so finding something it likes shouldn't be a problem for you.

I have a T3 superlight in .270 and handload 140 grain tsx excusively. Shoots under moa .
I don't plan on changing anytime soon. This fall I shot caribou, moose, sheep and elk. Not 1bullet separated. I'm not fond of digging lead out of my meat.
