I just traded for one of these. It’s at the gunsmith getting lopped to 16.5” and threaded 1/2”x28. I’m planning on running 108 eldm’s for NC whitetail medicine.

My question is, of the powders I have which one do you think will perform the best? I don’t really want to buy more powders than I currently have on hand. Here’s the list:

Ramshot Hunter - 2.75lbs
Shooters world long rifle - 3lbs
Superformance - <1lb

My 1in10 243 loves imr4350 with 95 Nosler BT’s or 95gr SST’s. If I had more, or could find it priced right, I’d probably roll with imr4350.

Hunter or long rifle would be your best bet imo. I’d start with long rifle personally since it’s a little quicker burn rate based off a quick search
Long rifle has been pretty good for me with 85gr and 100gr Speer btsp’s. Old load data for SWLR was hotter than more recent data. Fella from TN told me it was a great 243 powder, and he was right. This was before the advent of heavier, sleeker projectiles.

Not what you asked but I have the exact same set up and am running H1000 with 108eldms. Can never go wrong with a few jugs of h1000 or 4350 laying around your reloading bench. It’s just money and powder ain’t getting cheaper.

Have you tried H4831SC?

Have you tried H4831SC?
I tried H4831SC and had poor velocity results compared to H4350 in a 17 in 1:8 Tikka using 108 ELEMs. I found this surprising, as I expected it to be better.

I want to try H1000, but don't have any. I have some VV N165 I need to try as well.

Not yet. I found what I liked with the H1000 and haven’t done any more playing around.

Not a tikka but I used H1000 after having good results with H4350 and 108Eldm

H1000 gave me much better velocity without any pressure, but a mild charge of H4350 shoots lights out vs H1000 shoots good enough.

22" barrel H1000 sub 3K fps + still 1.5gr below book max
H4350 touch over 2900 fps .5 gr under book

H4831sc for me in my tikka 1-8 twist with 108 eldm. Typical 10 shot groups are at or under 1”. 45.0 grains gets me 2980 FPS out of the 22” barrel. SD is 11, if your into that sorta thing.

Which brass are you running in this?

I pressure out around 1.5gr below this with the same exact setup.

Accuracy is super though
