I’ve got a bug to pick up new 1-8 twist Tikka T3X .243 Winchester rifles and shoot 108 ELDMs, and would like to know how long can you seat the bullets and use M+ magazines.

Anyone messed with this? I hear Tikkas typically have longer throats.

Thanks

I’m on my first tikka 243 but the throat in this seems fairly short compared to all of the 6.5cm tikkas I have had. I don’t know exactly where I am in relation to the lands but I believe I’m set somewhere around .020” off if I remember correct. My loaded rounds just barely fit in a standard M magazine I think they are around 2.825” or something like that, I don’t have any of the notes in front of me right now.

I have seen others where they are loading longer and need the M+ mags but so far that hasn’t been the case for me except when using the 109 eldm. I was expecting to be able to seat these out further, the boat tail is well below the neck for my loaded rounds. I have another 243 take off I will install once this one is shot out and compare the throats between them. So far I have found tikkas to be very consistent barrel to barrel so I’m a little surprised this one is so short for the throat.

For my 1:8 tikka 243, 108s hit the lands just a touch over mag length. M+ Might be worth it with the 109s if the have a more slender nose and can seat out farther. For me, I’m gonna roll with the standard mag for now. I’m not compressed with h4350 so not sure what I would gain with the longer mag

In mine with 109’s I can reach the throat easily with the M+ mags. I have mine seated .030” off and they wouldn’t quite fit in an M mag.
