I’m loading pretty long, 2.475” OAL.

23.5 gr Benchmark.

Tikka Varmint, so longer barrel.

Work up to it.

Stock throat and aftermarket mags and you’re at 2.457” OAL? Thanks.

Look into renting the Uni-Throater from 4D. Super affordable and you don’t need any special tools besides what you rent. The rental all in costs about $50

I may do this as well - my 223 CTR shoots great, but the throat is quite short, even with a 69 gr TMK. Tried to take care of it the old fashioned way by just shooting it a lot haha.

I don’t think the long COAL is reducing velocity. It runs in safe pressure at 25.5, which gave average of 2931 fps. Maybe higher. But I need to run it with CCI 450s to test that.

In regards to trying 80 ELDs, I kind of doubt they have a longer bearing surface than 77 TMKs.
Interesting. Looks like the longer coal might be reducing velocity. Thanks for the reply.

Honestly I’d say that is a good group. I’d take that and go kill stuff out to the limits of that cartridge/bullet combo.

I’d expect a longer throat to reduce velocity because it reduces pressure.

Correct, thus allowing more powder to get back up to pressure. More powder = more velocity. Gonna do some more testing after hunting season. This load will kill stuff, so that’s what I’m taking to Montana next week

Yeah, Tac isn’t real spikey tho. I’ve done a lot of load dev in the summer with it in a 708. But you do have to be careful for sure
