Tikka 1-8 twist which Berger bullet

Which one would be better the Berger 80 grain or the 85 grain that is on the edge of needing 1-7? Tried the 75 eldm and the groups weren’t very good. This is just for long range target shooting. It shoots sierras not bad but want something better.

No issues there. I modded my factory tikka clip, it accepts real long now.

Here is the mag with a long bullet in it, where it was from factory.
You have to depress these tabs on the bottom on both sides, there are 4 to depress. It takes some doing and prying
Then once it’s apart one has to break apart the strip where the head stamp sits against, once removed just cut/file/grind the top back so the case can slide back further. Then glue the strip back flush with the new cut you made, I just held the strip where I wanted it and filled the little square channel with glue gun.
Then put spring back in and snap bottom back on.

Could try the 80.5 bergers. They shoot lights out in my 22 creedmoor 1-8 twist. The 75 eldms don’t shoot near as good out of my barrel

Might have to, same my gun doesn’t like eldm 75, but then again on the box it says 1-7 twist.

I found the 73 ELDm less finicky than the 75 when I had a factory tikka tube. Factory 73s shot great.

I'd try the 80.5 full bore if looking for a higher BC berger. Even that might not be fully stable depending on velocity and DA.

It's an overly generic min twist rate. Subject to velocity and Density Altitude. There are stability calculators you can enter bullet dimensions and load details to get it calculated for your application.

The berger one that has existing berger bullets listed already is a good place to look at berger options. 85.5 is not stable in an 8 twist at sea level @ 223 velocities according to Bergers calc.

I use the 75 ELDM in 4 Tikkas, two of which are stainless Varmints (23.5” 1-8” twist barrels) the other two are Lite stainless 22.4” 1-8” twist.

Here are my recipes, max loads so work up.

Varmint Cong:
75 ELDM
23.5 gr Benchmark
CCI400
R-P brass
2.473” OAL (1.940” on my comparator)
2915 fps

Carlos:
75 ELDM
25.0 gr Varget
CCI400
R-P brass
2.451” OAL (1.915” on my comparator)
2900 fps

I’ve killed three bucks with four shots with VC. We kill marmots out to 600 yards.

Its very easy to get the magazine apart just tape a couple of matches to the sides of the base and squeeze gently in a vise and the top lifts off

The 75s are very finicky to load, they like to be jammed and will shoot very well that way.
I use a lot of 80.5s which are very forgiving but I wouldn’t use them at 223 speeds on game, they have the thicker jacket.
