I shot a couple back in the late ‘80s but don’t recall the specifics other than the targets getting much smaller towards the end.
As I recall, many times it was up to the host of the shoots. Some were a steel or target out at a long distance. Others were simple X one shot 25 yrds, closest to center. Attached are NMLRA rules, just for fun. Planning a shoot?
I believe it, I was pretty darn good with mine. I shot a lot of matches with my trade gun. I built it and stopped using any other gun I owned for hunting and shooting. One shoot was for flintlock rifle, was asked if I was going to shoot, said sure I got up there with my $10 fee and my trade gun., did not have a flint rifle with me. They thought I was crazy (I was), showed those rifle shooters, I walked away with second prize a 4 point Whiteny blanket. Back east in the day the guy to beat went by "Lizard" His gun was nothing to look at pretty beat up broken stock wrapped with trap wire. What a great shot.
