What are you guys using with good luck? Please include powder measure you use, what powder you use and what variance you’ve seen between charges

Looking to throw charges for 223/6.5cm

I was using a RCBS chargemaster and upgraded to an autotrickler.

Went from low double digit SDs to single digit SDs.

The gains were not enough to matter for hunting at reasonable yardages, but it might gain a couple points if shooting matches.

Throwing charges (volumetric) on a Hornady lock and Load AP press with the right powder I see very little variation max would be .1 grain using something like CFE223 and if I have things tightened down it's pretty consistent though within error of an RCBS chargemasters scale. I never throw stick powder. I just get a little too much variation.

Dispensing powder I use an RCBS chargemaster but am on the waiting list for the Printed Precision trickler though I may get itchy and order something available. I reject all dispensed charges that are not the goal charge weight when using my chargemaster which with big stick powder can be annoying

I throw volumetric charges just below the desired weight, then trickle up on a beam scale. I have used the same trickler for the last 4 decades - a 30-30 case filled with with powder that I hold and tap with one finger. I can drop a single kernal of stick powder with no problem when I want.

I've got a second hand Lyman 1200 DPS and set it to throw 1 grain low then hand trickle up to my desired charge. I keep a second small Hornady digital with powder pan and dump the charge from the Lyman scale into it for a second opinion before dumping in my cases (Rifle only).
For handgun I just use the Hornady press mounted dispenser; it gets it close enough...

I use a chargemaster lite and am relatively unimpressed by it. Throwing H4350 it overthrows .1 to .2 gr about 30% of the time. Thinking about going to a manual thrower/trickler as I can't justify an autotrickler/FX120i.

Uniflow for ball and Lee perfect for stick powder. I haven’t weighed charges in years.

6cm velocity SD f(20 shot sample) was 10fps with RL16 dropped directly into case from a lee drum measure.

Thanks for the info, this is what I was hoping to hear. Acceptable SD with a much faster loading process

Dillon measure on the 550. I drop xbr mostly in 223 ammo, SDs are pretty good, in the teens last I checked.

Have a harrels that I’d use to throw h4895 and smaller kernel powder.

Otherwise auto trickler v3, occasionally a chargemaster if I want just a few rounds and don’t want to empty the v3 hopper.

I use an old crank handle RCBS; 2 throws then grab loose kernels to toss in and bring up to weight. Sometimes I need to cut a kernel in half with a razor blade to get it perfect. Using N570 which is .1 gr/kernel on avg. Also use check weights to calibrate the old RCBS balance beam. Always less than .05 variance.

Hornady lock-n-load, it seems to get ~0.2 - 0.3 grains variance with stick powder and like 0.1 with ball/flake. If I’m going for accuracy I’ll set it under and then put it on a scale to trickle up to the exact weight.
