Thoughts on this tripod setup?

I’m a weight conscious guy. I hate loading my pack with a bunch of weight then chasing animals up and down the mountAin. I want to run my ZEISS RFs on this tripod 100% of the time and my (soon to be delivered) kowa 884 (straight) 20% of the time. I’m looking at a slik 633. I know I’ll need to toe the line of stability with the big spotter, but I don’t want a 4 pound tripod. Has anybody run this setup or have any input on the 633 vs the 634 or something else? I haven’t gotten to the head yet. One piece at a time.

I’ll add that I really don’t want to drop 400-500 on a tripod.

I have a 634 pro cf and if I were to do it over again I’d choose a lighter, shorter model for the weight savings and solely used sitting. The 634 will do everything you are wanting out of your description above. Take a look at S&S archery for the pro cf models.

One thing I would do again without question is pair the tripod with the RRS BPC16 mico ball head. If it’ll support your optics, i believe you’ll find it IDEAL!

The difference between the 634 and 633 is the number of legs I believe. I don’t know the advantages of one over the other.

The difference between the 2 is the 634 is 2 lbs vs 2.1 on the 633. The 633, being 3 sections, not 4 is it will be more stable. Both can handle the weight of each optic. With the instant savings going on and we are giving 10% off any slik kit with a head on our site, use promo code slik21, it will be well within your budget.
Feel free to call me with any questions. Also look at the Sirui T024SKVA5. It's smaller, lighter and the VA5 head s awesome. Right now we are giving 15% off, promo code TS21. All are Carbon Fiber

No experience with the SLIK tripods but my Promaster 525cf has been solid for the last 3 years. Light enough while still being plenty stable for an 88mm kowa.

Per slik's website, the 634 is lighter (0.1 lb) and is more compact ( about 3" when folded).

I never compared them, but just went with the 634 when cameraland had them on sale. I use them for my RF's and 883...

I'll send you a pm about a new light weight tripod my buddy is releasing soon.

Sorry about going a little different direction...

I am also thinking of going lighter, but I really like shooting off a tripod along with glassing off it.
My current setup is a 2vets no name and RRS TA-3 leveling head. The setup is 4lbs 10 oz and is very stable. Is there a recommendation for a lighter tripod that will still offer pretty good stability and will support a 10 lb rifle?

I love my promaster 525CF as well. Paired with a sirui VA5 head... don't think i'll change for quite some time.

I recently went through the same dilemma. promaster 525/slik 634 is to me minimal good enough but not tall enough to glass standing with binos and lacking in stability for spotter/windy/shooting. Moved to slick tripods, a 734 (2lb14oz) tall enough compact enough,a step up in stability. Also a 833 (3lb5oz) plenty tall much more stable 3 section, a solid choice for backpack shooting and glassing for me

I am here today until 5:00 at 516-217-1000 if you have any questions. All the Slik, Sirui, Promaster and Peak Design tripods are on sale thru 12/31/21. Happy to help you pick the right one for you
