I am researching this knife and wanted y’alls feedback on it? From my research thus far I’ve found the factory kydex sheath is crap and I’d need a aftermarket one. How about the knife itself?

Spot on about the sheath, it's absolute krap.

The blade itself is sharp and pretty durable good size and I like the handle. I beat the edge up pretty well cutting bullrush for duck blinds last year (poked through lots of dirt & mud) sent it back and they sharpened it right back up.

That being said, I would not buy one again due to the apparent anti 2A actions of the company, but you can make up your own mind:

Great knife with the most poorly made sheath I have ever seen. The kydex itself is stout but the rivets holding it together will come apart almost instantly. Mine is sporting zip ties and p-cord to secure the knife.

I have always been a gerber vital/havalon guy then I got the steep country with a gut hook as a gift. It is a very well made knife and has incredible edge retention. It is a real workhorse but struggles a bit with delicate tasks like caping or removing tenderloins.

I still carry it on day/front country hunts since I always like to have a reliable fixed blade but my replaceable scalpels still get the nod for 90% of breaking down animals in the field.

It's a great knike. The sheath is crap. It should've come with a leather one instead. I wish the blade wasn't as wide towards the point, but that's a personal preference. Apparently, I'm the only one who likes blades like that cause every manufacturer seems to have went away from that design.

I haven't had any issues with my sheath yet. I really like it, holds an edge and takes an edge really well in the field. Handle shape is one of the most comfortable I've used.

Eh, this goes with the Yeti stuff for me. Outrage culture. They helped out the cops with destruction of firearms that weren't going to be sold or put back into circulation anyway. This isn't "anti 2A" IMO.

I agree with Raptor, I'm not sure I see anti 2A in anything Benchmade did. Seems like a good USA company helping out the local police force, kudos to them. I researched the company just recently because I had read the hate and I didn't find anything offensive, so I'm a proud owner of a mini griptilian. They make great knives, have an excellent warranty, and seem like pretty good neighbors. I've never used the particular knife you're asking about but I just missed buying a used one off here a couple months ago!! Buy it!

I have several Benchmades but once I tried Outdoor Edge knives the BM sit on the shelf or in the truck. OE are super light, sharp, and all I need to do once a blade goes dull is replace it. A OE knife and several blades is only around $25 to $40. I skin a lot of capes and they're the best knife I've found. They also hold their edge well and don't snap like Piranta's.

If you can find a saddle mountain “hunter”, not the skinner, it’s a better all around fixed blade in my opinion

I chose a Benchmade Puukko as this years hunt knife. Again, the sheath blows, but I have an aftermarket Kydex for it and it’s perfect for my needs.

The puukko is 3V steel so it is sorta rust able, but I’m cool with that. Most of my past knives are 0-1 steel.

I have used the knife for a couple years and really enjoy the shape of the blade. The handle isn’t bad but nothing amazing about it other than blaze orange so I know where I sit it down in the field. I have no issue with the sheath at this point. The saddle hunter looks intriguing and wouldn’t be a bad choice either.

I have a benchmade filet knife. It is the best filet knife I have ever used.
