I am currently shooting the Halon 32 as a primary bow and an Elite Impulse 31 as my back up bow.

27 inch draw length #72 pounds.

I am thinking about switching to the Athens Summit. Sadly, the only dealer in the Phoenix area is about 150 miles from my place and my schedule with family and work prevents me from just taking a jaunt out there to test them out.

Hoping for some feedback from current shooters.

Really like the Halon but the 85% let off is quite jumpy when practicing with a hinge release. The back wall is amazing on the Elite but just not a fan of the grip at all and the stock cable slide has shredded two sets of strings before switching to the Hyperglide.

I've heard great things about Athens, any and all feedback is appreciated.

Im surprised that you are having that issue with the 85% mods on the halon. I switched to the 75% mods to be legal in CO and found that I gained quite a bit of stability at full draw so I stuck with them full time. The 85% mods felt like I had to almost push the string to let down.

I haven't shot an athens but I have heard great things. There are quite a few guys here locally that shoot athens and swear by them. Their 3D scores don't seem to lie...

Welcome to Rokslide!

Thanks for the welcome Outwest. I've lurked for years and figured it was time to chime in. It seems it's hard to get a lot of info about Athens. I do appreciate the thoughts. I love the Mathews, really struggle liking the Elite, fighting to have a backup bow I enjoy shooting and I am hoping Athens is the ticket, Worst case is I'll try the 75% mod and do another Halon 32. Heading to Idaho for Elk in Sept and fingers crossed I'll be hunting late season here in AZ. Have some time to get the back up situation in order.

deadend88 , If you use facebook, there is an Athens group page. Those folks are very accomodating and want to get their bows in people's hands. Usually if they have a factory shooter near you they will try to meet up and let you shoot their bows.

Nice to know, thanks for the insight. Should have thought of that but I try to avoid Facebook as much as possible.

Athens is a very under rated bow. The machine work is second to none and possibly the best grip in the industry. They are worth the risk in my opinion.
