Those who know their stuff about Remington 7400 some help please

The ones I’ve been around are solid 2” to 2-1/2” guns. Other than that I don’t know much about them. I do know you would want to use small base dies so reloads chamber easily, or at least only reload a few times and then toss cases when they start to fit the chamber tightly since the locking lug design has very little caming force.

You should get one, it might turn out to be a keeper. Since many people don’t clean and lubricate guns very well it is probably where most jams come from.

That makes me want to try mine 30-06 7400, that was passed to me. It never used by me. It’s nice clean gun in plastic stock, fiber optic sights and trigger job by Accuracy System ~3.5lb.
I know people call them jam o matic, that’s a reason why I wasn’t able to sell local forums.

Yes I was considering a BAR and will look into buying one.
My favorite semi-auto of the Remingtons or Brownings are the discontinued BAR MKII lightweight stalkers. I had my 308 bobbed on both ends. Excellent truck and stalking gun. It would be fine for 300 yard shots. My 270wsm and 300wm are longer, but they do have decent recoil pads, unlike the 7400s.

I had 2 different 7400s. A 280 and a 6mm. I really liked them both. The 280 shot about 1 1/2 inch groups and the 6mm is an honest moa gun with super performance factory ammo. My son still has the 6mm and loves it. I don't ever remember having a jam with either one. The problem I had with both is a wandering zero.. If anybody has a cure for that please let me know.

My dad used the predecessor the 742 for years. It was a pretty gun. Did what he needed it too. But it was a turd to group. The 19" barrel sucked and would heat up so fast the 3rd shot would be 2-3" off.
My brother has its twin as well as my dads now after he passed years ago. My dads gun was having jam and feeding issues and my smith I took it to years ago said it was a bolt problem which they were known for and no parts available. it jsut sits in my brothers safe now.

My Brother in law has a 7400 in 270 he has had for years but it was the same poor grouping rifle design.
Mu better designs for an autoloader out there in my opinion.

Throw the Leupold or vortex away

Pretty sure there is more to it than the scope.- But yes it will get a known solid scope on it when I get around to it
