Ive been using the Katadyn Hiker Pro for several years now. Never had any trouble with it but thinking bout trying the sawyer mini because its so much smaller and lighter. Anyone have any first hand experience with it?

^^^this. The regular sized one isn't that much bigger or heavier and has worked fine. I tried a mini and it just didn't flow very well.

Couldn't agree more with both previous statements. I own both and now only carry the mini as a backup on longer trips.

the mini is awesome. just have to use it as it should be.... its definitely not a main filter. i use mine to suck up water when crossing sources when i dont want to pump or carry more water weight on my way up. its great to have on you when you drop your pack to stalk a critter and it becomes longer and further than expected. its a cheap, light addition to ones pack.

I used a mini for 12 days straight last year, backpack elk hunting in Idaho. Not a single complaint.

I love the mini like another post said I just use it for a quickie rather than filtering a bunch of water. I screw it right to the top of a smart water bottle and drink right through it and I think it's just awesome. We bring it katadyn for doing larger volumes but use the mini quite often for 20 -40 ounces. My fiance is an avid hiker and really was skeptical about it but once she saw it in action she bought one for her daughter and hijacked mine

Another vote for the full sized sawyer. When I was using it in silty water I had to backflush my mini ever 1/4 liter while the squeeze could go for about 10 liters between backflushing with the same water.

I have the mini and it would recommend it. Used it as a primary filter on my recent hunt. It is slow to filter a large amount at once, but it works as intended.

I've used the mini on several trips as a primary filter and was completely satisfied with it.. right up until a buddy broke out his regular sized sawyer. I still like the mini a lot and it will continue to see a lot of use but the bigger one is a lot faster. With either one I recommend buying the 64oz bags. I usually take one 64oz bag and one 32oz bag. Also as I mentioned on another thread, I cut a aquafina bottle in half and use the bottom to scoop water and fill the sawyer bags. It's quicker for me.
