Is it worth the hype? Worth the money? Over sleeping on the ground.

Also should I get the rectangle one or the mummy shaped one?

I am 5’10 195. Will the reg size be ok?

Thanks

I tried several pads before finally buying one; should have done it first and skipped the others. No question it's better, and warmer, than sleeping on the ground. I'm 6' about 215, the wide mummy fits me well. I don't think there's enough weight difference to justify not getting the wide, other than for small people.

Its the only pad I have experience with so take that for what its worth, but its definitely warmer than sleeping on the ground.. 6.9 R-value if I recall correctly.

I have the regular sized rectangle one, and I don't think the mummy would make much difference, but I wish I had the wide because my elbows hang off the sides if I lay on my back.

I use one. warm, warm, warm. A good pad is so important in sleep systems. Whether you have a quilt or sleeping bag you need bottom insulation to keep you warm. a sleeping bag compresses under your weight and makes it ineffective and kind of a waste. That’s why I use a quilt and xtherm.

I love mine. IM with cornfedkiller though. Its the only pad I know. I took it to Idaho in the Spring and its been in Montana down to zero. Get a good bag and you will be solid. Buy once cry once.

"Sleeping on the ground"???? Man, you must be young if that's even an option. I consider sleeping on my Xtherm as sleeping on the ground......as that's bad enough. Not because of the Xtherm, it's the best combination of light weight, warm, and sleepable that I can tolerate without being on my giant cot with lots of foam.

I have had many sleeping pads over the years. I currently have a rotation of 3 different pads. The Xtherm is one of them. There are more comfortable pads. And there are lighter pads. But, if you're only going to have one pad, I think it's the one to get. And I would definitely get the wide. The couple extra ounces are worth the better sleep IMO.

I normally use a Xtherm but decided to try the neoair xlite this past weekend that I bought for my kids for summer time. Figured it wasn’t too cold out yet and would save a few ounces. Anyway, it sucked! The Xtherm is awesome and definitely worth it.

i hate the thermarest neoair pad i have. (not this Xtherm with higher R value....) it crinkles like sleeping on a bag of potato chips! very noisy for a guy who rolls around in his sleep alot. went to Klymit pad with the "waffles"

My Big Agnes air core ultra with R value of 4.5 was too cold late September at 9-11,000 ft this year. I was zipping my sweatshirt up and sliding it over the upper half of the air mattress, sleeping with a base layer in a zero F down mummy and still getting too cold to sleep from the bottom side. Gonna get me a NeoAir Xtherm for next year. Glad to hear it is warm.

I have the large wide, worth the money up here in AK for me. It works well for my Sept-Nov hunts paired with my kifaru slick bag. Mines going on 3 years old now and no leaks.. I had a big Agnes Q core, but they kept leaking air. I think I ended up going through 3 of those before I got rid of that system. I'm 6'3" 265lbs.

April of last year I grabbed an XTherm MAX for $165. Great investment, I am very happy with it. Wife got me the electric air pump as a stocking stuffer last year and I used it last month for the first time. A very nice touch, and since she got it for me I will pack the extra weight (2.3 oz) and come home and tell her how awesome it is.

Long wide mummy cut for me. Best pad I've found so far. Should've bought it first and saved a ton of wasted time, money, and cold sleepless nights.

I’m very happy that I bought the Xtherm Max Wide. Allows me to move around and not end up on the ground. Way too warm for most of my needs but I just open my bag up and use it like a quilt.

This is good to know. I put mine away after 1 trip because it was so noisy. I'm an active sleeper. Will have to give it more time
Thermarest is updating the Xlite and Xtherm with new fabric making it less noisy and more stable.
