Probably a stupid question, but what is the purpose of the removable rubber eye piece for thermal scopes, and do you prefer to use it or not and why? The one that came with my Pulsar just seems to make it more difficult to get a good view of the display, and I worry I might lose it while carrying the rifle slung since it only attaches by way of a magnet.

My understanding was it serves to block/contain the light from shining so much on your face at night when you view through the scope.

I use them on my thermals, since they don’t seem to easily move.

You don’t necessarily need it, especially if you feel it’s more of a hindrance.

It helps keep the display from lighting you up, which can be detrimental for predator hunting.
If you want to keep it, I recommend securing it with some electrical tape.

This. Also just about necessary for daytime use as the ambient light will wash out the screen pretty badly.

I removed it from every thermal I've ever had. But, I'm also running dual tube NV without them and almost never use thermal during the day.
